Always on display?

I have since today (11. February) the Forerunner 255 and dont know, how can it set to always on? Newest firmware on.

In the evening I have a dark display.

I ve set in every condition the backlight to "no timeout".

I look after 10 minutes to the display, dark!!!

Sometimes after 30 minutes, dark!

What is the trick, I could have an always on display?

If its not possible I will send it back.

  • Seriously?

It is a always on display, as it always shows values on the screen. Garmin uses MIP (Memory in Pixel) Displays, which are very low in power consumption: https://www.electronicsweekly.com/news/business/753555-2020-07/

The thing is, that it is not lighted by backlight, but reflects surrounding light. Thus it will be very bright outside in the sun, good readable outside at daytime (remember, it is a sports watch) and not so good readable inside and during night.
For those last cases, it has a backlight, which can be activated through pressing button or gesture.

The backlight is NOT meant to be on all the time, as it would consume way too much power. That is not, how a MIP display operates.

    Don‘t like that?
Then you should really send it back and go for a watch with OLED display. Garmin also has some watches with that.

  • Thanks for your post, I really like Garmin products.

The backlight on "no timeout" setting seems today to work. (Backlight is always on). I am a sportsman AND like always on display.

What I made, after settings, I turned the watch off and back on.

As a Windows computer, need to be restarted :-)
