Preventing Automatic Search, and Prompt, for New Sensors

Standing in race corrals awaiting marathon start, and constantly prompted by other runners' HR straps trying to connect to my 255. There used to be a manual option only to add new sensors in previous Forerunners, and that is how the menu is set up it seems on the 255. But is it now only automatic identification with prompt to connect now? Of course, I can decline the connection but it's distracting prior to race start as it takes over the display until I reject the connection. Happened 2 or 3 times while waiting to start.

    Why are you searching for new devices in such a noisy environment? If you have paired your belt or other div. sensor once prior, you don't need to search every time you will use it. It will be connected only to a known ID (mac-address).

    Others' HR straps in close proximity are trying to connect to my watch automatically. I have to manually decline each time. I want to prevent the unwanted pairing request from occurring on my watch. Simple, right?

    Never experienced that myself, despite doing 3 or four large events with mine.

    Update : I recall seeing someone report something similar but I cannot find it in the forums (not that it very easy to search!)

    Yes, that's the issue. Thanks for finding it in the 955 forum, SMR. Seems relatively rare. Hasn't happened to me either before this last race. Probably used this watch for about a dozen other large events. Guessing something 'broke' again in recent firmware release. Pretty big race distraction though to start rejecting connection requests while standing at the start line.

    Follow up from Garmin:

    "Apparently, getting that message is by design. It's the watch noticing a sensor/accessory that you might have forgotten to pair, before starting your activity. If it is not yours, you just then answer No, when asked if you want to pair it."

    Terrible design....very distracting to have these pop up screens with other runners' sensors trying to connect to my watch while standing in the corrals waiting for the race to start. In addition, the activity Start button is the same as the button to accept the sensor connection request.
