Garmin 255 latest update 14.08b

Since updating my 255 keeps resetting at the most ridiculous times- 3 miles 9.9 miles- ends music - restarts - loses some data.

it’s also now glitchy and takes a while to move from screen to screen! Only a couple of months old- ready to send back unless something changes - was great before the update?

  • I had the same thing happened to me yesterday, 3 miles into my run my watch stopped, got the blue triangle of death then started back up but had lost all my music, somehow it seemed to delete the music that was on the watch. When I got home I went to re-add the music back on only to find that garmin express said it was still on there, even though I could not find it and the music icon had gone missing on the watch. I ended up taking what was supposedly on the watch off, then re-added it. Today's run went without any problems. A second thing I had noticed since the update is that my second screen of data fields (screen 2 has two data points, lap pace and lap distance) had shrunk the fonts so that they were too small to really read. I tried to re-add the data fields but they stayed small, so I ended up making that screen only one data field (lap pace) and that was normal size. It seems like only the two field option shrunk when you look at layout possibilities.

  • Sorry to hear that. Maybe you should stick to the "official" version and stop downloading the beta versions?

  • Dear ,

Garmin wrote - "his update, version 14.08, is a Release Candidate. "Release Candidate" means that this exact software version is planned to “Go Live” as a public update as long as no critical issues are observed."

who will find the bugs for you if no one tested SW?

from my side I confirm the triangle of death (TOD) after exercise.

     - they have now joined EMEA & APAC versions  together (fonts at first) and we will find many such errors.

  • Exactly the same- have to turn watch off and on again to get music back! Garmin need to sort

  • I only let the watch update itself- had no choice - it juts appears

  • So do we just put up with it or can I revert to an older version? Going to be annoying at races

  • That is not true.

You have to actively join the Beta program from Garmin Connect Web Portal (and maybe it is possible from the app too, don’t know).

You have to confirm the rules for Beta program, before you are enrolled. If you did all that by accident, congratulations.

  • Well thanks for the helpful comment! I may have done this many moons ago with older watches. I certainly didn’t ask for these beta updates for the new watch…all I’m asking is if I can revert back, not to have trolls on here being condescending and patronising! This is why I stay away from social media.. Christ if people can’t help why comment..il contact garmin directly..so glad to have made your day.

  • Same thing happened to me today 4 miles into a 6 mile run

  • Glad I could help ;)

And now back to topic: It was YOU, who wrote „I did not do anything, the beta just installed itself“. So now you confirmed, this is not true and indeed you did join the beta program.

So my suggestion to you is this: Leave the beta program. After you did that, obviously your watch should revert to the release firmware line.
