GNSS / GPS acting suspect -- how to test?

I saw my pre-workout GPS meter at the top of my initial activity screen flash multiple times between green and red (auto select mode).

It's now taking longer than usual to get a fix before starting an activity.

How can I test the number of satellites visible in each system and that system's accuracy?

  • It's complicated. Too many factors are in game. How long have you not synced to phone TTL of gps almanac is about 2h.. If it lost, an warm start is needed(about 15 sec) ...and so on.

The only indicator is the arch from light to start knob long. If it green and full - all OK, if not - you must wait.

Have even checked my settings - auto select is on - no complications, get always the fix in 5-10 sec.

  • On an android phone, it's possible to get an app to see how many of the constellation of satellites are currently visible.

Knowing how many satellites are "seen" would be great.

  • There is a data field called "GPS" that indicates GPS accuracy. You will find it under "other" for outdoor activities.

  • The 5 levels in the 255 is better than the three steps in the 920 (that had to be added with a CIQ field).

Missing the detailed information in (multiple) GF305, visible before starting.
You could see the accuracy in meters as a field.
What a great device the GF305 was. The GF255 is finally a device with a better GPS and it is smaller (even if round, not square that would be practical).

Suunto (at least in Ambit) included the no of sats and accuracy in the logs at regular intervals, not so much of use though.
