New Garmin FM255m missing heart rate data

Software version: 13.23

Hi everyone, a week ago I upgraded myself from FM245 to FM255m. I've been looking to upgrade FM245 as some features and I've found the new features and capabilities of FM255 a lot better than the ones that the Fenix 6s, along with good reviews around the web regarding the improved GPS and Heart Rate sensors.

The two runs I went on looked pretty good and all of the data was there, even running power which is really cool!

The issues that I've been having are connected to missing heart rate data. During sleep, I often get blank spots of heart rate, also, during the day when I move around the house doing some random things the heart rate just isn't recording.

Here is an example of a heart rate chart with sleeping and movement:

I've been skiing the past week so I've also recorded that activity and heart rate has been missing for some moments.

But the missing heart rate which causes most issues is the one during sleep:

-> this is from today, I've slept quite well from 23:30 to 7:30, but my Garmin recorded it only from 2 AM to 7 AM, this of course messes up the suggested workout for running (recommends recovery)...

I've never had these issues with both Vivoactive 3 and the previous FM245 I've had, but it's been quite a shaky first week of usage.

Things I've already tried:

* Searching for updates -> this is the latest version
* Restarting the watch - it didn't improve anything
* Resetting to factory settings - didn't help as well
* Tighten the band/Loosened the band - I've found the best results when the band is really tight, but that starts hurting my hand so I don't think that's the intended tightness, also - never had to tighten it up so much with previous watches

The sensor works fine, there is always at least one green light blinking (even when the heart rate isn't recording) so I don't think it's hardware issues?

  • Hmm, you tried already a lot and I suppose it could be a hardware defect.

You should contact [email protected] directly, I think. Probably a replacement will be needed.

  • Hey there, thanks for the reply.

I did reach out and they suggested another reset which I followed, I will monitor for a few days and then come back to them.

But I have a question about the HR sensors, for me when I flip the watch over and don't wear it, the upper sensor/light is ALWAYS blinking, but like the entire sensor, only the upper part of that sensor. Is that normal? I don't recall that happening with my previous watches

  • Is that normal?

My watch stops to blink wich 2 LEDs together after 3 sec if i take it from hand and turn it over.

    No, that is not normal.

I had the FR245 for two years and now the FR255. Expected behavior, when you take off your watch: The LEDs blink very brightly for a short time, then stop completely. Just like global_local wrote.

When you move the watch again, LEDs will start blinking and search for a pulse again.

So if on your watch something blinks constantly, to me this is another indicator of defective hardware.

    Tell the support about that…
