Gesture backlight too sensitive since 13.21

I find the backlight too sensitive since firmware 13.21.

For example, when I sleep, the backlight turns on, which didn't happen before if IIRC (at least that is what my wife says!). And during the day, it turns on very easily too...

  • Why not just turn off the gesture backlight? There is a dedicated button for backlight if you need it.

  • Why not enable gesture backlight? There is a dedicated option for that Stuck out tongue

Regarding the question, yes it's waay more sensitive and unreliable since the update.

  • There should be an option to keep the gesture backlight, while at the same time to prevent it during sleeping time. It should be in settings/system/do not disturb or settings/system/Sleep Mode (I don't have English as language, so I'm not sure)

  • I do have the "do not disturb" option enable at night / when I sleep, but I still have backlight that turns on, which I didn't have before the last update.

I've just done a test: if I enable "do not disturb" option now, indeed doesn't turn on. So there may be an issue only for night setting?

And as confirmed, it's not just a problem at night, but the sensibility is high also during the day. I barely move my wrist, the backlight turns on...

  • You may set  the time of sleep and awake on Garmin Connect App for Do Not Disturb (DND). In Settings > User settings > Sleep Setting.
Also in Garmin Connect  touch on watch picture on the top of main screen go to the bottom > System > Do Not Disturb. Status Off and During Sleep leave ON. There will show the period of your sleep you previously set up.

About sensibility you may adjust the level of brightness at your preference during activity and General Use.
Garmin Connect main screen >  touch on the watch picture > System > Backlight > You choose which one you want to set During Activity or General Use.

  • That is already all set... But thanks anyway.

BTW, would be nice to be also allowed to adjust delay to shorter than 8sec, like 3 sec, which I find way enough when I just want to see what time is it.

  • Yes, backlight gesture is too sensitive. Firmware 14.15. The backlight turns on if jogging normally, resulting in backlight constantly on the WHOLE workout, draining battery.

The backlight should only turn on when ROTATING wrist, not SHAKING wrist.

    Please, garmin, fix this.

  • I also have ths problem, very annoying!
