13.21 - rapid battery drain

Hi, less than a month since the purchase of 255s music - during this time all super battery consumption with about 6 GPS activities and 6 training activities without gps - zuzcyie at 60-70% per week. I did an update to 13.21.I don't use dials or external apps except spotify. Since yesterday, after charging to 100%, the battery has dropped to 27% and is dropping like this at a rate of about 2%/hour. I have not been able to find an answer to my doubts. I use BT only to synchronize activities after they are done, during normal use it is turned off. Wifi by default turned off. What is the point of Garmin?

  • Hi, i just updated to v13.21 this morning and after fully charged to 100% this morning, at around 4:30pm i checked my battery dropped till 85%. The watch is on my table the whole time and i am not doing anything with it.

  • From reading the forums, I know that battery drains seem to occur to some people from time to time.

But most probably it is seldom a problem of a specific firmware version. Why do I say that? I had the Forerunner 245 for two years and so had multiple firmware updates, but never a battery drain. And I have the Forerunner 255 now with firmware 13.21 since activating it, charged it yesterday and after 12 hours of use (sleep tracking, optical HR activated) it is at 97%.

So it is not simply the firmware, but the update possibly triggered some kind of error on your watch.

Have you tried a soft reset? This should help to clean up some things on the device, I do it after every major update.

(Connect the watch to a computer with Garmin Express Software, synchronize it, then hold Power/Light Button for around 15 seconds until the watch turns off, wait some seconds, push the button again to start it, wait until it is connected to the computer and Garmin Express again and has synchronized again).

  • thanks for the recommendation, i switch off and on, will monitor on it... hopefully the battery do not drain after this.

  • Just to make that point clear: Switching it off and on is not a soft reset!

For a soft reset the watch needs to be connected to a computer with Garmin Express during the whole procedure, just like I described above.

Pressing the power/light button while the watch is not connected, will NOT have the same effect

  • Hi, i have the same problem. During 24 hours the battery dropped to 80%.

  • Same issue here, since last update the battery lost 20% to 25% per day. Before it could last 7 to 6 days easily with approximatly 2 hours of activity per days (with or without GPS)
I have the watch since 2 months so it's very wird to have these drain

  • same for me. The battery drains a lot faster with SW version 13.21

  • The battery drains a lot faster with SW version 13.21

Like I wrote above: It is not simply a specific firmware version. I have also 13.21 and battery is at 58% this morning. More than five days since last charging and of course some hours of activity tracking with gps.

Have you tried a soft reset (see above)?

  • my last charged after the battery drained issue was last Friday and i switch it off & on the watch (not soft reset) and i ran on Saturday & Monday with GPS. As of today my battery is at 50%
