Are there any users who doesn't have any issues with 13.21?

Hi guys,

Happy FR255M user here. I just received an information from my watch, that there is a new firmware to be installed (I assume it's 13.21 version). I've been reading, that quite few people reporting many issues with the new firmware. Are there any users who DOESN'T experience anything unusual after installing the new firmware? Is it safe to install it?

The new feature in the firmware (running power from the watch) is tempting, but if I had to deal with all the potential issues I don't think it's worth it.

I read that users with firmware version 13.21 are experiencing the following issues:

1. Not able to edit activity screens via Android App

2. Strange (much lower) HR readings during activities

3. Problems with BT connection

4. Battery drain

Regards.

  • No issues with my Forerunner 255 Music with the new software. But I don't edit activity screens on the Android app (I do it directly on the watch), and most of the time I have the bluetooth off. I am an active watch user, but not so active phone user. I think the editing of screens by phone app was an issue on the previous version as well. It was supposed to be fixed in the new version, but I guess there still are some snags with it.

My heart rate readings and the battery life seems fine.

  • Thanks for sharing your feedback. Looks like you are the lucky one not affected by the issues, so there is a hope ;-) I have a race during the weekend, so I need a reliable watch. I'll give a try to the new firmware after the weekend maybe.

  • So far mine seems to be fine. I have the 255s music.

  • Mine is also fine. I haven't noticed anything unusual so far. I'm able to edit activity screens normally, etc.

What I recommend anyone with any problems is to do a soft reset (press and hold light button for 15 secs) - I heard from Garmin support some time ago it's a recommended procedure after every update.

    Regards

  • Reported on another thread.... this update put my watch into permanent sleep i.e. it just wouldn't boot back up / turn on - totally dead, and yes, it was definitely the update that caused it! Garmin are replacing the unit.

  • Sorry, to hear that

  • I've just updated and can't use the iPhone Connect app to update the watch. It takes a while to think about it and then I get a message saying it can't update right now, try later, or update settings on the watch. I've performed a 'soft reset' but it made no difference.

  • Mine only has issue 1 - besides this it's ok.

  • Working absolutely fine here.

Then again, I have zero issues since I got the watch at launch. Only thing I did was switch out to a custom watchface (Big Easy), and easily getting anywhere between 2-3 weeks battery life on a charge. 3-4 times running/biking each week.

  • Since I bought my 255 in august 2022 I'm experiencing problems with editing activity screen via Android App. Always the same error message saying to try later and never opens.
