FR 255 Music: 13.21 Bug: Backlight during Activities

Backlight During Activity

Whenever I enter any activity/health snapshot (but not an app from the ciq store) via the start button menu, the backlight settings are not respected.

The backlight immediately comes on at 50% and stays on no matter the time of day. For run activities it comes on after I accept/dismiss the daily workout suggestion.

This results in unnecessary battery drain. My backlight settings are as follows:

During Activity: Keys > Off, Alerts > Off, Gesture > Off, Timeout > No Timeout, Brightness > 50%

General Use: Keys > After Sunset, Alerts > After Sunset, Gesture > Off, Timeout > 15 Seconds, Brightness > 5%

  • I can reproduce this with 13.21 on the non-music version

This is unexpected and unwanted behaviour and quite annoying.

  • Unfortunately, this backlighting issue doesn't only affect workouts, but also a bunch of other functions (e.g. payment, blood oxygen measurement). I have already contacted support about this. I have also videoed it for them. One of the guys said he managed to reproduce the bug and opened an error ticket for it. This happened - if I remember correctly - two versions (I'm now on 13.21) earlier ...

PS: I have all backlighting turned off. That's why it makes me angry, because I think that's the only way the MIP display makes sense. I'll - if I have to - turn on backlight with button.

  • Yes, I can confirm that it also disrespects settings during pulse ox measurements, manual syncs, etc.

I have also sent a video, let's hope they have a fix for it in the next beta.

  • Yes, backlight gesture is too sensitive. Firmware 14.15. The backlight turns on if jogging normally, resulting in backlight constantly on the WHOLE workout, draining battery.

The backlight should only turn on when ROTATING wrist, not SHAKING wrist.

    Please, garmin, fix this.

  • Does anyone here with this problem wear his watch on the right wrist?

I have a suspicion that the gesture backlight works much worse on the right wrist than on the left. I tested it yesterday during a run. On the left wrist, the gesture backlight was mostly ok, on the right arm it was almost always on. I have selected right wrist in the settings. I have a sneaking suspicion that the watch ignores this setting and/or doesn‘t use a mirrored gesture pattern to detect rotation on the right arm.

  • Bugs reported 3 months ago, still not fixed ... Disappointed
