[Bug?] 255 does not acquire GPS signal since Oct. 19

For the past few days my 255 (firmware v12.27) has been unable to acquire a GPS signal before a workout with a clear view of a clear sky, no trees/buildings around. Things I've tried:

  • Restarting watch
  • Using different GPS settings (auto, multiband, gps only, etc)
  • Removing custom watch faces and fields from the watch
  • Syncing with Garmin Connect
  • Syncing with Garmin Express
  • Factory reset

Still, whenever I go to start a workout, the little GPS acquisition band on the top of the screen makes no progress (not even partial progress). The watch's GPS was working perfectly fine before this for about 3 months since I purchased it. The only thing I can imagine is that there's an issue with a recent firmware update, but that's hard to check since AFAIK it isn't possible to roll back to an earlier version.

Any tips here would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Edit: I should add I stand outside for 10-15 minutes with no acquisition progress. So I'm definitely giving it enough time!

  • Here as well! Sometimes it works but most of the time it does not!

  • I reached out to Garmin support and they were working with me to solve the issue (they're great, by the way). However the watch seemed to fix itself over the course of a couple days. It did not acquire GPS at all two days ago; it didn't acquire it on the pre-activity screen yesterday but did acquire it immediately after I started the activity; this morning it acquired GPS pretty quickly on the pre-activity screen. If you're having consistent issues I'd definitely recommend reaching out to support.
