Lost all default HIIT options

In messing with my 255 many months ago, I managed to add what I think is a custom HIIT session, but none of it makes sense to me as it looks like a simple count-up timer with zero functionality. I've tried to restore this activity to its defaults and have removed it from my favorites, but now when I chose this activity, I see none of the pre-defined HIIT options that are described in the manual and shown on all of the tutorial vids I've seen. I really don't want to do a hard reset on my watch and set up other customizations. How can I get the original garmin HIIT functions back?

  • I'm afraid people won't be able to help you, this sounds like a very specific and rare problem. Unfortunately even Garmin programmers would propably be clueless without a thorough check. Unfortunately I think your best bet will be a hard reset of the watch.

  • OK, this problem is back and it is driving me nuts. I reset my watch and started over as suggested. All other functions seemed to be working fine, but here we go with the HIIT issue again. I've worn the watch for a good month to get my HRV data back up and running and have avoided the HIIT timers.

Today, I went to the HIIT function, the select HIIT timer type came up and I selected custom. I set up a basic profile, 30 second timer, 5 seconds of rest, 12 rounds. I then ran the timer and used it for some stretching work and ended the workout early and deleted the activity.

Now, when I go back to the HIIT function, the option to select the HIIT timer is no longer available. If I start the HIIT timer, It shows "set 1" and begins a count-up timer. If I hit the back button, the rep count window comes up. If I hit the back button again, the next set starts- the whole thing looks like a weight training timer now.

If I select the HIIT workout, but then chose the up button, then HIIT settings, the scroll all the way to the bottom and chose Restore Defaults to restore the activity defaults, nothing changes.

Can anyone out there that has set up a custom HIIT protocol tell me if you are seeing regular behavior (i.e., you can still go to the HIIT activity and get to chose the type of HIIT timer to use etc.). I really don't want to reset the watch again and guess I'm just going to have to avoid using this watch for this purpose.

  • Hi, Ok I tried this and this is the result I get , to see if it helps.

I went to HIIT activity. I set up the initial set you mentioned.

I then let it run and stopped the timer and saved it.

I went back to HIIT activity , went up button, selected training, HIIT timers shows as an option , which I selected. I could then go to custom and set a custom one again.

BTW have you done a long press reset (Hold in power button for 15 secs or so until the watch powers down itself , then after a minute or so restart it. You dont loose data like this and sometimes it sorts some issue it seems)

  • Thanks so much! Wow, what a convoluted path, but now that i know to dig into the Training functions, this helps tremendously. Still don't understand why the default HIIT function works as a count up timer instead of giving the initial options, but glad you pointed me in the right direction.

  • Glad it helped !
