Forerunner 255 has problems counting steps

I went för a walk and used the walk activity. I counted the steps in my head and got 3500 steps. I used another app on my phone that counted the distance with GPS but also steps and it reported 3443 steps. Pretty close, I might have counted wrong while walking.

Anyway, I thought I could see how many steps the watch thought I walked but it's not visible in the summary page in the Garmin Connect app where I see heart rate, time, pulse etc. Why is that? Silly!

I tried to calculate the steps by looking at the steps graph in GC and subtracting the end number from the start and it gives me about 2725 steps which is about 700 steps less than my count and my other app's counting. This a big difference!

20 % error

  • My watch is showing the other way. Apparently after waking up and walking to the kitchen my watch thinks was 260 steps. I only got this watch 2 days ago and seemingly hit my 8000 step target by 11am on day one. There seems to be a a massive over counting of my steps since I got this watch.

Oh no! I wonder how it can be so difficult for the Garmin watch to get this right.
