This is a Crisis, Forerunner 255 and 955

Regressions with new software releases are not unusual, but 12.23 is a crisis. So many things have gone wrong at once that it's hard to imagine how it could happen. All advanced training features appear to be broken plus there are cadence, display, stability and battery life issues. About all I trust now is time and distance. Maybe someone left out a secret ingredient and spoiled the entire batch. There's no way this could be the product of multiple independent mistakes. Many users were relying on the Forerunner series for training and now that has been interrupted. People are upset. Garmin has a crisis and needs crisis management. Acknowledging there is a problem is a good first step, but more is needed. How about a timeline to a fix and more transparency?

It might be a good idea to do a few runs before passing judgment as there may be some bad data from 12.23 messing with the results.

How are some.of you able to return the watch? I bought mine straight from Garmins official website. I would like to return mine and get one with touch because the buttons keep getting stuck and have a very bad feel to them.

  • Got lucky this time. Disabled automatic updates. I'm still on version 11.x, which works quite well for me. It'll be an act of courage to update it to some future version. (I really like an option to dismiss a message with middle left button. Why to remove it?)

  • Strange how they make these unnecessary changes to FW when so much could be done to ensure stability

How would I go by to return the watch? I'm struggling with the buttons on top of other things.

  • Try the shop that you bought it from first. If Not the contact Garmin Support in your region.

  • This is my first Garmin and I have an idea. Go back to the Apple watch

  • I totally agree, I'm also very disappointed with the Garmin response after the 12.23 update. The user experience should be a must and this is probably why everybody is in love with COROS. I hope that you guys do it better from now on.

  • I am not sure if it's due to 12.23 firmware, but I had multiple incidents of random spike of high HR (>180) when I was resting (eg. stop during middle of ride to grab some food or sitting at couch watching TV). Anyone face the same issue?

To fing out if you face the similar issue, either you check back your daily HR graph or enabled abnormal HR alert, set a high HR trigger which js high enough which you know you normally don't hit it. Eg. I set 180.

This random HR spikes are causing all the training status to be wrong.
