issue: forerunner 255 stopped recording activity to save battery

Model: Forerunner 255

Battery status: over 65%

Where can I disable the save battery during activity recording option?

I was enjoying my first recorded running activity when suddenly a countdown screen with a text -I can't remember the exact script, was warning me of the saving battery status about to happen.

I didn't quite understand what was that about, so I assumed the watch was going to record the activity in the background and I didn't do nothing.

The watch change screen to default watch and I was happy keeping my pace.

The great disappointing moment was when I stop my activity and started to look for ways of stoping the recording and find out about my stats.

There was nothing recorded.

Not happy at all on my first impression with this device.

I've already found the power management option. There's nothing to do there, is just a switch and it was off by default.

Can someone help me to find this setting and turn it off?

I'll really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

  • Are you sure you had started the activity?
I think the function you are referring to is the "power save timeout" in the "run settings" menu. It can't be disabled, you can only select between two different timers, one of 5 minutes and one of 25. But this timer should go off only if you select the running activity without pressing the start button, not during an activity.

So if you are sure that you had pressed the start button (when you press start the page changes and the timer starts counting) this is a bug to be reported to garmin.
If you instead had forgot to press start, the watch did that by design and, having you not started the activity, it wouldn't have recorded anything even if there wasn't such a timer.

  • Thanks for your reply StreetLight, I've checked all possible combinations of setting the activity and starting/not starting the activity without been able to replicate the issue again.
It makes sense your explanation of what could have happened that first time, although I'm pretty sure I started the activity as I was eager waiting for the satellites green light, but I might have had the wrong impression I did started the activity appropriately.
So far I've ran more than once and the watch behaved correctly.
Have a nice day and thanks for your support.
