FR 255 Series: Training effect calculation is wrong after 12.23 (and including 12.27) software

Hello,

i've come across this problem (also on the beta 12.20)

I've seen in the 955 forum that it is a common fault. Do i need to put this here in the 255 section also?

have to get this of my chest: since i've purchased the watch it only has disappointing software bugs. My first 4 Garmins never had one issue. I'm really getting frustrated spending 400 euro's on a watch which  now has screwed up al my training load's en stats thus far......

  • I see that you are still running the 12.23 software on your watch.  Please see the above comment from me regarding the beta software addressing this report.

The 12.27 software is currently in a phased rollout as production software, so if you do not want to enroll in the beta software program, you should still be receiving this 12.27 software (as production sw, not beta sw) within the next week.

  • Ok,  I'll wait for the 12.27 fw and see if this will happen again.

  • .27 has not fixed this. All my load is reported as tempo/high aerobic including the runs that never go above the bottom end of Z3 (my zones are set correctly and I've been using the platform for over 7 years on various watches). It'd be an entirely pointless device if I were to be using daily suggested workouts. Luckily I opted to go for a 14 week plan just before you guys broke the training features on this watch.

  • I have previously posted about this problem and want to provide an update. Strangely, the problem seems to have gone away with no change in the software.

Sept 6: First noticed the problem whereby Zone3 runs were now being identified as "Tempo" when similar previous runs were identified as "Base"

Sept 17: These same Zone3 runs (with similar maximum heart rate and similar average heart rate as before) are now identified as "Base". Ever since, I have not had a problem with easy runs being classified as "Tempo".

v12.23 software was used throughout this time period and it is still the software I am running today.

  • This has been resolved with the release of 12.27 software.  Additionally, make sure that your heart rate zones are set up correctly.  See the introductory NOTE in the FAQ below:

What Is the Training Effect Feature on My Garmin Device?

If you are still experiencing this after 12.27 AND you have not customized your Max HR/Lactate Threshold HR OR your Heart Rate Zones, please start a new thread.

  • If you are still experiencing this perceived high training effect, please respond to the following:

    1. What sw version is running on your FR 255 Series device?
    2. May we, if necessary, have permission to email you?
    3. May we, if necessary, have permission to view/access your Garmin Connect account?
    4. In what country do you live?

    Additional info:

I'm having the issue with cycling activities. The training effect feature worked fine until I started using a power meter (4iiii left sided only). I've got the power zones and heart rate zones set up correctly and all the heart rate autodetection is turned off.

The recorded power data seems fine as it matched the data recorded by my wahoo head unit.

So, as an example, for a 36 minute workout, the workout results in Garmin connect display a heart rate distribution of 8% zone-1, 82% zone-2, 9% zone-3, and nothing above. The power data is 19% zone-1, 73% zone-2, and then ~1% each on zones 3 to 6 (all less than 30 seconds). The resulting training effect is "Pace" (German wording) with 3.5 point on aerobic and 2.3 on the anaerobic scale. That looks way off to me.

    Greetings

    Ts
