Forerunner 255S Screen & Build Quality

Hi All,

My girlfriend just got her 255S in the mail today and I gotta say, the screen quality and build quality is quite bad? Is this bad unit or am I expecting better?

The screen is washed out really bad. I can't tell if this is supposed to be red or orange? Every time I click the buttons I hear this odd metal sound like I hear the springs inside the buttons flexing and it sounds quite cheap. Is this normal?

  • for a reason which might be garmins secret forever - they use black as background color of their user interface which is totally stupid.

I recommens to change the watchface to a black/white one with a white background, you will see what i mean, it is awesome outdoor readable but the black background can not make any use of this technology

White letters on black background have exactly the same contrast as black letters on white background, so readability is the same.

  • no, definitely not!

maybe technically the contrast is the same but the readability is definitely not the same!

    for a very simple reason:

the black has not the same "brightness" like the white. if you have a white background, the amount of light reaching your eye is way more

  • Why do you want to see the background? You want to see the letters that are displayed on that background, right? And for that all that matters is the contrast between the background and the letters. The absolute amount of light reaching the eye is totally irrelevant, if most of the light comes from elements that bear no information (i.e. background).
