Significant power measurement discrepancies between Forerunner 255 and Zwift

I did a 1 hour ride on Zwift today and recorded the activity on both my new Forerunner 255 and natively through Zwift. Both activity recordings were then synced to Garmin Connect.

Both Zwift and the Forerunner were gathering power from my bike's Power2Max NG Eco power meter.

I was dual recording to test an issue I am having with Training Effect not being reported on Zwift activities.

Here's what I saw reported for power numbers by the Forerunner for that activity:

And here's what I saw reported by Zwift:

As you can see, it's a substantial difference!

Any thoughts as to the cause of this?

  • I figured this one out for myself. My Wahoo Kickr over-reports power significantly. When adding sensors to my new Forerunner, I selected my Power2Max power meter as the source for power readings, BUT the Forerunner thought it was smarter and selected my Kickr as the power source EVEN THOUGH I NEVER ADDED THE KICKR.

Anyway, I deleted the Kickr from the sensors my Forerunner knows about. Hopefully that solves the problem ... We'll see.
