Forerunner 255 music - headphone connectivity

Hi,

When I first had my 255, I had no dropouts when connected to my Aftershokz Titanium. Within the last couple of weeks, I have not had a run (outdoors) when the connection isn't continually dropping. The interval between dropouts can be anything from a few seconds to 10 minutes or so.

I have tried connecting my watch to my Bluetooth speaker which works flawlessly with other devices and I experience the same issue.

I have tried resetting the watch, deleting connections and restring Bluetooth devices, all with no success. I just wondered if anybody else is having the same issue or any advice on how to resolve. Running with music on this device is currently very frustrating.

Thanks

  • I had the same problem with two different headsets.  I contacted Garmin and they offered an exchange but it would take until the end of August.  So I returned it and got another. Had the same problem.  The store has had two more returns for the same problem since then.  It’s a flaw in the 255 music.

  • Same issue. Thought it might be the headphones, this morning tried some different ones and still occurred.

  • I have this problem, too and I use Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. First connection worked fine and the quality was quite good...

A few days later, i started a new run and the watch lost the connection already at the beginning. I was not able to get a stable connection so I had to run without music ( 1h30min :-((( )

The following runs where a hit and miss...very frustrating. The connection was there but the quality was awful...

Hope there will be an update for this problem...

  • To be honest, I don't believe they'll be able to fix this problem with a software update. It looks like the bluetooth receiver isn't good enough to demodulate radio waves that are going through the body (I think that water in the body affects bluetooth signal). As one of the solutions, they suggest wearing a watch on the other hand. I didn't try that yet, I found that keeping the wrist slightly rotated inward solves the problem (in that way there are no obstacles between the watch and one of the earphones). I know it's not really a solution, but it works for me.

  • Perhaps running with one hand in the air held next to my ear phones would work lol.

  • I'm wondering if other watches like FR245 music, fenix, vivoactive, venu, etc have the same problem

  • For me this a different issue.  I've been wearing my FR255 on my other wrist for exercise all along, as the FR245 also wouldn't maintain connectivity.

In this case connectivity is maintained.  When running I need to go into Sensors & Accessories turn of thr connection to my headphones,  then turn it back on. Not really practical when doing a hard session.

  • I have that problem too. I turn on all the sensors just before starting an activity (headphones, running dynamics). When I start the activity, music stops almost immediately (but connection remains, I don't get a notification that the connection with headphones is broken), and I have to turn off the headphones and turn them on again. Luckily, this happens only at the beginning and I don't have to repeat this in the middle of activity. On the other hand, running dynamics sensor works perfectly all the time. Obviously, headphones feature is very buggy.

During this restart of the connection, when I turn off and turn on again the headphones, my watch even froze several times and I had to restart it (it becomes unresponsive whatever I do). This happened maybe 3 or 4 times, and I hope it's not going to happen again, it's very annoying.
