FR255 is missing features related to cycling FTP

According to the manual, FR255 is able to :

1) Conduct an FTP Test : www8.garmin.com/.../GUID-C8DAC4B1-3159-4E8C-ADD9-6FA012EBA697.html
2) Automatically detect FTP : www8.garmin.com/.../GUID-0EDC68E3-D886-48D2-B624-AA634739B421.html & www8.garmin.com/.../GUID-B40A5128-C382-4F10-AD38-39649C42EF35.html

But my watch :

1) does not have the "FTP Guided Test" in Cycling activity => Training (even though a power meter and a chest heart rate monitor are paired)
2) does not have an option to autodetect FTP in User Profile > Heart Rate & Power Zones > Auto Detection (it only has options for max heart rate and lactate threshold)

Thanks

Here a user has an option to autodetect FTP on his FR955 : https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series/300658/garmin-pod-and-power/1455517#1455517

    Whereas it's missing on my FR255 :

I contacted the french support about it but they have been completely useless.

So I tried the US support and it went a lot better, they asked me to send them some files from the watch and they are looking into it.

  • I can't find those features either.

On my 6 Pro autodetect FTP is under Physiological Metrics but that doesn't seem to exist on the 255.

  • Just wanted to confirm, that's the issue I have with my FR255 as well. Any news on this Former Member?

Thank you both for confirming the issue.

They replied me a few hours ago (after I sent them the files and screenhosts they asked for two days ago), telling me they submitted a ticket and will keep me updated. I will keep you updated in turn when I know more.

  • Oh, geez. I wondered if it was just me, or maybe because I didn't have my chest strap on when I went to look for it. I'm glad you posted this, so I know, but I'm really bummed it's not there, and from past experience, I have very little faith in Garmin tech support :-( Sigh ... I was going to do this tonight.

My first thought was that it might be just me, or that I was searching for the chest strap without it on. I'm glad you posted this, but I'm really bummed it's not there and based on past experiences, it isn't likely to be there any time soon.

  • Yes, Garmin support is generally trash. About a year ago the barometer on my FR935 stopped working (it showed my elevation dropping dramatically for the first mile of every run, so I always ended up 100 ft lower than I started on an out-and-back). Looking at my upload, tech support said "you didn't end where you started," because it was about 100 feet different. But, like, do you REALLY think there's 100 ft elevation difference in 100 ft of my sidewalk?! I don't live on Everest! I've also had a problem with my Edge 810 forever that they've never been able to diagnose or fix :-(

Well, still no news from garmin. Maybe try to contact them too, the more people the better I guess.

  • I did and they just replied to me and said "did you have a chest HR and power meter paired to the watch when you looked for the menu item?" I did, and I also have a VO2max reading from yesterday. I'm sending them photo proof of all of this and pointing them to this thread too.
