Forerunner 255 Series Rapid Battery Drain

This is the 2nd time this has happened since getting the watch less than a month ago. Normal drain is about 2% overnight. I have shut-off WiFi, which I thought was the culprit after the first time. This problem has happened twice now, randomly. The drain DURING activity seems to be in line with Garmin battery assumptions. So, it's the General Use of the watch that is the problem. Maybe occasional overnight updating via BT? Or constant syncing via BT? Or BT gets 'stuck'? Any thoughts before I contact Garmin Support?

  • Just a quick update: I now had high battery drain 3 nights in a row, not happy with that. Everything is stock on the watch, latest software installed. Hopefully  Garmin support will find a solution for this.

  • Last night 10km "running" activity (I was at 77% before taking off my watch and putting it down). this morning when I woke up and wanted to put on my watch I saw that it was at 48%. I didn't understand...

  • First step in troubleshooting is to identify and remove all Connect IQ apps/fields. However, that did not solve my issue ultimately, and I had to return the watch. Others have suggested it's a sensor issue or an ANT+/ BT issue after the activity, where the watch continues to attempt connection. Contact Garmin, or start by removing the Connect IQ apps and see if that solves the problem.

  • I've had my watch for a few months and never had this issue until this morning where I found my battery had drained over 40% last night.  I haven't recorded an activity for a few days so it doesn't seem like it would be related to that.  The only things that have changed recently:

-A few days ago - Auto Updated to SV12.23

-Last night, because of the software update, I decided to change my GPS modes to the new "Auto Select", may be a coincidence but I will have to see if it continues.

-Update- I just remembered that once when I rolled over in the night I recall seeing the blankets illuminated because of my watch was backlit.  Thinking about it now it shouldn't have been because I have Do Not Disturb on during sleep hours.

  • All,

We are in the process of releasing 12.23 production software.  If you experience this battery drain after installing the 12.23 sw update, please start a new thread.
