Extreme battery drain since update to 13.00 (e80dcb4)

Hi!

I enrolled the Beta software program (apparently a big mistake!) the 9-10th of October and my watch downloaded 13.00 (e80dcb4) Since then my battery life has gone from 5-7 days to having to charge multiple times each day to cover my daily activities. I charged my watch to 100% 30mins ago and it is already down to 87% and i have only been sitting at my desk.

What can i do to solve this? I have reset the watch but no change.

Can i roll back to an earlier firmware?

  • latest public retail version

Currently don't have it on me so can't check, but is latest. And drain happened after that update (and myself discovered workaround )

  • My version is 13.00 but I think I already had this version since several months (maybe I'm wrong), so not sure it is related to this because I only had the bug last week. Since the bug and reboot everything seems OK and the battery lasts a week at least (I think 10 days max) without activities.

  • I am not certain if this will resolve your issue but I stumbled upon a fix that worked for me when I happened to have forgotten my Garmin on the charger as I left for work in the morning. Basically, I left my 245 charging the whole day and since then the battery drain has been greatly reduced.

  • I had the same issue, until I discovered that my watch face silently added the seconds on the screen, so it was updating the screen 60 times per minute. It drained my battery for few weeks. Once I disabled that option everything worked like a charm.

  • silently added the seconds on the screen?

Are you are talking about the regular clock face updating as each second ticks?  Mine does and I don't have excessive battery drain. Did you change to a different clock face or is it some other option I'm not picking up on. Thanks.

  • Forerunner 245, severe battery drain after updating to version 13.00 (CORRECTION: I have had 13.00 for several months, see discussion for details). According to a battery widget, the drain starts suddenly, at random, without any apparent reason (no workout or other interaction with the watch; last time it started when I was at my desk working). Once the watch enters this state, only soft reset helps, and only for about a day. Pretty frustrating.

  • The update was deployed 9 months ago.

Do I understand correctly that you recently installed it and encountered problems? Or did you wait 9 months to write about them? Clarify please.

  • I updated the watch a couple of days ago, which I distinctly remember (it pinged me, asked if it's OK to install, I said yes). The "about" page in the watch settings says 13.00 right now. This suggests that I did update to 13.00 a few days ago, right after then the drain started.

Right now I have 10 hours from 100% to 0% (without any activities) once the watch gets into this state.

I have been trying to isolate the issue, I ruled out the radios (the drain happens in airplane mode too).

  • The last update was about time zones.

As for the FW , if you have recorded activities, then they indicate the watch brand and version FW.

Look, most likely you have had version 13 for 9 months already.

  • You're right - activity history suggests I got the FW somewhere between June and September 2023. I corrected my post.
