What ‘distance’ does the 245 measure: does it take slope into account?

I’m curious if the 245 (and others) takes slope into account. For rough example. If I run 1 km as measured on a flat map, but the slope is, for example, 45degrees, is the distance returned 1km or 1.4km?

It would be 1 km.

An important sidenote: Some recent garmin watches that are equiped with a barometric altimeter (245 is not among them) have a setting called "3D distance". If enabled, the distance is calculated accounting for the additional distance caused by the slope.
