Forerunner 245 battery drain after recent Garmin update. Anyone else having same issue?

I’ve turned off the backlight, only sync when I open GarminConnect. Is there a fix for this? Watch was purchased new in November 2022.

  • Moved thread to Forerunner 245 forum.

  • Let's try again...

After the 9.60 software update, I noticed that I was also getting unexpected battery drain - about 1% of battery per hour when I am not using the watch.   I also noticed that the watch was disconnecting from my iPhone much more frequently.  At night I leave my phone downstairs and my watch upstairs - before 9.60 software the watch would not disconnect from the phone, but with 9.60 that is enough distance for it to disconnect.  In fact I can be just a few feet away from my phone and the watch will disconnect and then reconnect.

I am wondering if there was a change to Bluetooth such that it is disconnected and wasting battery trying to reconnect.  I took note of my battery this afternoon and made sure to keep my watch close to my phone and in 6 hours the battery went down only 1%.  I am going to try an experiment where I leave my watch with my phone overnight and see if the 1% per hour battery drain goes away.

  • I was wondering if mine (245 M) was draining faster, seemed like I went from charging once a week to almost every other day. It's not mentioned as a fix in the 10.40 release notes, but maybe the "Other minor improvements and bug fixes" has a fix. Fingers crossed.

  • It turned out that even leaving my watch right next to my phone overnight didn’t fix the problem. Next experiment is to wear watch to bed.
