I say, for now, as it has worked thrice today [got a GPS lock]. Let me see over a week or so.

  • Update:

The problem resolved and watch successfully updated to 5.0 after deleting and re-installing Garmin Express from my Mac, following the precise step by step instructions from Garmin Support (Thank you Mr Ken!).

    Works perfectly.

    Unable to sync.

  • I have a similar issue since 1-2 days (garmin connect android) - never had any trouble before.

From garmin connect, sync stops at about 1/4, triggering a sync from the watch throws a 'sync failed' error.

However, activities are correctly uploaded towards garmin connect. Sync via garmin express works.

FW is 5.00, garmin connect 4.36.2 (running on Android 10).

Does anyone else experienced this ?

    Exactly as you described it.

  • After this upgrade, I'm seeing a 20-25% increase in heart rate during all activities.

  • Looks like we're not alone, see: https://www.reddit.com/r/Garmin/comments/jdianl/forerunner_245_syncs_activities_but_nothing_else/

(NB uploading routes from the app to the watch also fails)

Some others are also complaining about this on twitter.

It started to fail with garmin connect 4.36 this saturday (4.36.2 in the meanwhile didn't help), latest successful sync was with 4.35.1.

I'm quite relunctant to go ahead with the factory reset potential "solution" ...

My girlfriend has a FR45S, same version of Garmin Connect, she doesn't experience a similar issue (different phone however & other issues with the 45S).

I reset mine down to factory settings...that didn't help. Then I reset to factory setting and deleted the data - there is an option like that. That fixed the problem. That's some really bad coding on Garmin. I lost at least two days of data of course

  • Many thanks for the update Remy - a possible (but not tested) workaround for the data loss is to 1st sync with Garmin Express on PC (that doesn't report a failure but I can't be sure).

A small question: is everything really gone with the full reset ? (I guess so ... but I mean e.g. the watchface configuration, screens & fields associated per activities ? - only standard not CIQ apps/datafields ... but manually configured)

I'll keep the full reset as last resort if Garmin doesn't fix this, I'm still reluctant configuring everything again - waiting for a (potential) fix is a poor man's solution but - in my case (I can leave without up-to-date data on stress, HR, ... or sync through a PC) not as bad as spending an hour or two setting it up all over.

After 9 days using V 5.0, I have experienced blank HR reading on the middle of the night (about 1:47am - 2:17am), it affected my sleep data, I actually sleep 8 hours but because blank HR gap, it count only 7,5 hours. I used FR245 since March and never experienced this problem. I wear my watch fit, turn off my bluetooth connection on watch before I sleep so it wont show any phone notification. Fortunately, on my V5.0 I am not experienced any GPS Lock or battery problem like anyone else here.
