  • Since the automatic update to SW 5.0 my battery is toast. It used to last 6 but more often 7 days. Now with the same routine, the battery lasts about 13 hours! I changed and tried multiple watchfaces and the best with a plain face is about 4 days. No other changes. Please, I hope someone is lookng into this. I have had the watch for 14 months through multiple SW updates and this is the only issue I've had. In the interval, how do I roll back to the last SW prior to 5.0?

  • I can recommend to make a reset to factory  to clean everything.

It work very well for me.

It take less than 5 min to restore all my params.

This 5.0 firmware is very good and I can use again my favorite watchface gearmin with a 1% drop/hour. (Very correct with so many info at screen)

    Best regards

PS: It should be very nice idea to develop a small app to:

    - switch to a very basic watchface during Night (during DND)

-once the morning, restore a heavy watchface with all info you need during the day.

-> Some watch face propose by default this kind of feature but not all :-<

--> We can pass from 4 days to 7 days with a battery with a low consumption watchface during night (around 0.2%/h - comparated to my gearmin -1%/h )

I installed the SDK to see what is possible....

  • Thomas, Thanks for the reply. I will try that since you recommend the 5.0 firmware. Certainly easier than a rollback to an earlier version.

  • I had the same battery issue. Unpair and pair the watch with the phone again - I mean total pairing again where the phone asks you for security code to confirm bluetooth connection.

  • Totally agree!  And don’t understand why they would move that.  At least give us the option of where it displays or something...

  • I have different issue: average HR after update to 5.0 is 20% higher, all stats are now meaningless. Take a look carefully at your data.

Tried downgrade to 4.87 beta but it is not possible.

  • I did a factory reset of the watch and it helped with the battery for a week I got a full normal charge and it lasted more than 7 days and then yesterday I was at 50% battery and I woke up to a dead watch. Is there a way to go back to the old firmware?
I’ve only had the watch for a little under 2 months and I’m so upset that this is what I’m dealing with now. I’ve done everything I can think of to the watch to make it use the least amount of battery.

  • Hi, did you try to use that datafile & instruction?

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14935

I have tried couple times and it did not work for me. Still have ver. 5.0

  • I'm now using this firmware since one week and I have better statistic to share.

Definitively the Beta 4.87 was better that this 5.00 for battery saving.

    ### With the 5.00 it is not possible to reduce the consumption.

*You can try, to change to a light watchface (without  seconds and refreshed data), disconnect BT-> You will stays at 1,1%/hour

--> what give max 4 days with a battery

    ### With 4.87, the night, you can success a 0,35%/hours during 8-10hours  & the days a 1,3%/h -> that means that the overall battery time was 6-7/days/battery

I tried everything, factory restore, all possible tips. -> I think it is a firmware problem.

--> 1,1 %/hour with an heavy watchface (during day with lot of notification) is quite good but when the watch is not solicited (during night, with a basic screen, without notification) we can not reduce the drain -> And that's the problem of this firmware.

For all the rest  5.0 is superior.

    - presentation, new design of screen

    - gps connection (less than 5s)

I detect this morning, some freeze during my running with this 5.0 (first time) . The 180 ppm "metronome" don't bip with regularity, i removed it during my run.

But i'm a crazy "battery drop testing" benchmarker, and them i'm not happy with this 5.0
