White spot on Garmin Forerunner 245

I bought my Forerunner 245 (no music) in May of this year and have been really happy with the product. However, a big white spot appeared recently and it has not gone away after about 5 days. The spot is even there when the watch is turned off. Is there anything I can do about this?

  • Hi fellows, how are you? I had battery problems with my garmin 55 and now i am thinking about changing to the 245 (because the retailer didn't give the refound option). Do you think that I probably will have the white spot issue? I am worried about that.

I thought that garmin products were awesome, but now, I regret about every dollar I spent

  • You are going to have them ... it happens to all of them after a year of use ... it seems programmed obsolescence

  • See, I told yuh.....listen guys...I bought my first forerunner 245 off ebay second hand. It developed a white spot, garmin pointed me to the correct part of the site where i had to enter some details.

read: I did NOT have warranty and even if it was aweek old, 99.99% off the time they usually don;t cover anything bought off Ebay.

BUT, all I had to to was enter my watches serial number, name and address and was told to ONLY ship the watch and nothing else.

Approx a week later.....arrived a BRAND NEW boxed and sealed Forerunner 245!

They asked no questions because they are good enough to admit that the white spot epidemic is a fault on their side, so I am very happy.

Stop banging on about how you dont have warranty etc etc...just send it off and u may get a new one, you may get an as-new refurb....but the watch will be 100% working again.

It is also free shipping via ups when you send it off to Garmin and free shipping back - so why not??

  • I have reached out to local Garmin local support and NOTHING! So very disappointing!

  • They don't have india in the country list.

  • I bought Garmin 245 watch in October 2019 in London airport. About 7 months later, it developed white spot on the bottom right corner. After lots of back and forth with the bangalore, india support folks, my watch(only dial) was replaced with another one around June 2020 for nominal fee since the purchase was outside the country. Now the white spot has re occurred again in the replaced watch!!! And in the initial call with the support team they said, I have pay nearly half of the original cost to get this replaced as warranty period was counted from the initial purchase!!!

I can understand if the issue was because of the usage. But this is clearly a product defect and why should the customer be penalized for a defect by the manufacturer?

It is sad and disappointing to see hard earned money go down the drain like this!

  •    Hi, I bought this watch around 14 months ago, I am happy with it, but recently a white spot has appeared on the screen as you can see. I there is anything I can do about it? Thanks for your advice.

  • Contact Garmin support, get a replacement watch.

It is a hardware defect of the display, which x% of the watches have (of course only Garmin knows x). There are multiple topics regarding white spot here in the forum.

  • Also had this problem.  I saw in the forums that it’s a known fault and to contact customer support.  There is a whole section on it there so I was quite pleased until they tried to charge me £117 for the privilege of replacing the faulty watch I was sold.  I don’t think I will buy Garmin again and will go back to Polar. It’s a shame because I like the watch but this has really annoyed me!
