White spot on Garmin Forerunner 245

I bought my Forerunner 245 (no music) in May of this year and have been really happy with the product. However, a big white spot appeared recently and it has not gone away after about 5 days. The spot is even there when the watch is turned off. Is there anything I can do about this?

  • hi there, I purchased my Garmin 245 in June this year and it has been great. Today the white dot appeared and i am devastated. The GPS has disappeared also!.... please help/

  • just noticed this white circle on my watch (lower R hand area). It remains regardless of it being on/off. No known trauma to watch and it’s <6 mos old. Help!

  • I bought my Garmin forerunner 245 late 2019 and before April 2020 it had the so famous white spots... Finished the prep I was doing for an objective in august and in September I submitted it to warranty. I've very disappointed that a brand with such a name and history allows:

1- An ongoing issue of a unit that is supposed to be the top of the line for running watches (300€) to keep happening without solution.

2- if you can't solve the problem, treat us with respect, 2 options:

    - since it's your responsibility and problem and not the user fault, apologize for the inconveniences and switch for a NEW one.

    Or

    - Take the watch that I so carefully used for less than and year, fix the problem and then give it back.

3 - Offering a refurbished product, whose usage is clear (in my case, since the buttons don't work as well as mine did), is throwing sand into our eyes.

I complained in the store i bought it, I complained to garmin, I even sent it back to Barcelona for checking the buttons problem. Sent me back the same unit, without any interventions because supposable "no flaws where detected"

Long story short, bought a watch, came with a problem. Garmin "solved" one and created me another, Wich now they don't solve.

I wanted this watch to last for years, but right now considering in selling it as 2nd hand and looking for other options. Very disappointed.

  • I woke up a few days ago to a white spot on my - until then - great 245M. Contacted customer support, they offered me a refurbished replacement under warranty. So far, so good.

I'm just wondering, since this seems to be such a widespread problem: Are some display units just "faulty" out of the factory, and these spots later just show? Or is this something that happens based on usage? Maybe can shed some light on that?

  • I got this big white spot today. I bought my 245 from Amazon.ca 5 months ago.

I just noticed the big white spot on my screen today. It's still there even if you turned off screen.

I bought my 245 from amazon.ca and have been using it for less than 5 months.

Hopefully I can get mine replaced as well.

  • My Forerunner 245 has developed white spots, 2 in the last week at 13 months old. At first Garmin USA offered to replace it free of charge. That was until they realized that I am stuck in Thailand due to Covid and the 245 was purchased in Australia. Garmin Thailand say that I will have to pay for the repair at  (Repair Rate*60% ) plus VAT/GST for 7% if your device was purchased overseas.

So great support for what is obviously not an isolated problem if you are in the USA. Pay for the repair at huge cost if you are not. I expect better than that Garmin. Also has the problem that will not charge at all. The suggestion to try holding the on/off button not helpful. Come on Garmin you can do better than this.

  • Garmin support in Thailand want to charge me (Repair Rate*60% ) plus VAT/GST for 7% if your device was purchased overseas.

  • Great support if you are in the US. Offered to replace mine until they realized I am in Thailand.

Garmin Thailand will charge me hugely. Not great support from Garmin for a problem that is universal and not an isolated issue. I should get a replacement no questions asked as would be the case in the US it seems.

  • Not a good look Garmin. I would like a replacement also .

  • Got the same problem overnight with my vivoactive 3 music. Probably uses same display as 245.

Unfortunately I'm out of 1 year garmin warranty for 2 months now, but am still in 2 year warranty required by German law. Got in touch with the support and am waiting for further steps now.
