245 screen and gps issues

So when I initially received my 245 (non music). I was pretty happy with the watch. Didn’t expect a tank for the price I paid so I knew I needed to take care of the watch. Fast forward to today. I’ve been sick for the last month so I’ve only run 6 times with the watch. I pretty much baby the thing. This AM I look down to see the time and what do I see? I giant white circle in my screen. Not a dead pixel or 2. And to top things off my gps tracing has gotten worse over time. In the beginning it was great now...not so much. I’ll include a picture of the screen for reference. Has anybody else had an issue similar to this? Pretty disappointed so far, def was expecting more coming over from Suunto. Anyways here’s the pic...

  • Yes, I have the same problem recently.
Initially my watch had the same dead pixel problem. I sent for warranty and get a new unit after 3 weeks. This disturbed my training plan without a watch for that long time. Garmin needs to seriously consider how to help customer and allow us to know real time what happen to the service.

Worse, after get my new replacement. That replacement unit GPS never works. Out of my many runs, it works once but give totally wrong one line location that is near by but not the right loops that I was running in. Now I sent again for another service. There is my disappointment and time wasting again to send for repair and waiting anxiously if it will ever get proper fix.

    Grieving from Malaysia.

  • Same here. What is really annoying is not only that it appeared a few months after buy, but the support is so bad.

    11. December 2019 into service in Singapore and I still did not get a repaired or swap device and it's already 9. February 2020.

Very disappointing. My first and last Garmin.

  • Not at all. I'm waiting since 11.12.2019 !!!!

  • Dont have a spot, but my gps got also worse over time!!! it takes so long...... reset and switch between gps modes dont help at all... this wasnt the case in the beginning!

  • Could be your CPE is old (it's used to speed up GPS locks and expires after a time).  On your watch, go to about, and the CPE state is on the very last page.

    It should be "current"

The quickest way to get an updated file is connect to a pc/mac with Garmin Express.

  • its current, but thx jim! i still have to watch, today it was better out in the trail, but sometimes the gps wont lock for me :( my 245m is 3months old...

  • I have a problem with the screen and with the GPS, on a 1km ring which has now become 1.2km and also the cardio sensor occasionally goes crazy and gives me abnormal beats when I watch TV, I hope that Garmin can solve our problems.

  • Well ,after I have the same problem with 2 Garmin 245 I change to the 645 ,it's more reliable and the price is the same at this moment. And we get a barometer , lactate threshold test  and better gps results. I learn a great lesson with is ,not everything new is better .No regrets at all

  • Same problem. After 11 months I got this same issue in the same spot. Garmin immediately offered to replace the watch. Now I’m just waiting for them to send the replacement.
