Treadmill calibration not working

Went for a run on the treadmill today with my Forerunner 245.  I noticed at the 1mile mark that the watch was reading 0.7 so I stopped the activity and calibrated it to 1.0 miles.  I ran another 1.6 miles at my watch was reading 0.7 or something.  When I went to calibrate it, I actually could only calibrate to 1.5 (the 1st decimal point only went 0 to 0.5), which I did.  THen I ran for another 0.6 miles and the watch still said 0.25.  It seems like the calibration actually got WORSE each time I entered in the treadmill distance.

I have the same issue but it is far worse. I can run a mile and have the watch tell me I only ran 0.25 mile.

I have a Garmin forerunner 245 and I discovered an accurate way to use it on the treadmill. Only catch is you need to use a chest heart rate monitor synced with your watch. If you have that, just remove it from your wrist and place it in your pocket. After two calibrate and saves it has been dead on every time I use the treadmill. I even tested the accuracy of throwing some slow quarters with faster ones and it tracks the increase and decrease in speed. So, yeah!

No matter how much I tried I could not get it to work when ion my wrist even with calibrate and save. Maybe I don't swing my arms enough, or I swing them too much. I figured in the pocket it has to follow your gait. Go figure! Keep running!

  • What chest HRM do you have? I think that works only with Garmin HRM PRO, TRI,  and RUN because they give running dynamics.
