Treadmill Calibration Error - How to restore default?

Former Member
Former Member

I went for my first treadmill workout this morning and as per the manual,

https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner245/EN-US/GUID-86541696-B60E-44BC-9A46-4349C86A1CD8.html

it prompted me to calibrate the treadmill. I had run an interval session, and I made an error as I typed in the interval distance from the watch as opposed to the treadmill distance, which means my calibration is now way off.

How can I re-calibrate the treadmill without a factory reset? The manual says there is an option to manually calibrate after every run, but

a) that didn't come up

b) I'd prefer the default to be correct

I've selected "restore defaults" on the treadmill activity, so I am hoping that just re-setting that will trigger a re-calibration, but if it doesn't, am I literally going to be forced to factory reset the entire watch or are there other ways?

Thanks!

  • I have had the FR245M since it's been released and have had treadmill runs off my miles since the beginning. The new 3.70 update may have solved it! Just for reference, I did not restore defaults and decided to give the software update a try. Like many, I've restored defaults in the past and had initial success, just to get worse every treadmill run.

The first treadmill run with the new update was way off (3.6 treadmill miles vs. 2.1 FR miles tracked), I knew the watch would have no data from my stride length, so this was expected. I just went for my second treadmill run and it was pretty close (3.6 treadmill miles vs 3.51 FR miles tracked). My old FR 235 was off by 0.25 miles which was acceptable to me, so even if it's only 0.09 miles off that's better than my old watch.

I know they are intermittently rolling out the 3.70 software update to users since 11/1/19, hopefully everyone receives it soon. In the notes, it sounds like they are continuing to fix this calibration issue. But the initial step is a big one! And of course, long overdue.

Try the opposite! I ran at a 5.2 or like 11:40 pace today and it said I ran the first mile at 9:30, second 6:30 and third 7:30. It said I ran 3.44 and I ran 2.4 at best!

  • I figured a work around.  I had an old garmin foot pod not being used.  I connected on last run and perfect.
