Since the last update, the watch has become unusable: no longer sleep tracking, steps are no longer counted and the heart rate is completely inconsistent
We are rolling out SW v27.10 for the Forerunner 165 series, which addresses the data dropout issues described in this thread. You can manually download this software update by selecting Menu > System >…
I also have issues in both outdoor run activities where gps is all over, no step tracking, heart rate off. FR165 27.09. Problems came as soon as updated.

And this is exactly why Garmin ought to support firmware downgrades.
Even if it requires a convoluted hands-on method, at least give us the option of being able to get back to a functioning watch again…
I’m seeing similar issues. Forerunner 165 on v27.09 and I’ve gone through all the usual steps: Garmin Express update/sync, restarts, and full factory resets.

Heart rate data is still all over the place in day-to-day use and during activities, and the watch consistently lags for 7–8 seconds when pausing or resuming an activity. My last four runs, including all-out efforts, have shown an average heart rate of 74–76 bpm, which is clearly not accurate.
I’m also seeing problems with cadence, and my sleeping heart rate looks wrong as well, with random spikes in the middle of the night.

When i start a run, the start is delayed and when i pause the run it is also delayed. Adding a course while running i keep getting "on track", "off track" notifications so i suspected gps issues - but it has persisted. I get random reboot both in workouts and when the watch is just idling.
No problems in indoor swimming workout.
