Heart Rate Monitor Incorrect Following 27.09 Update

I am noticing the heart rate monitor is incorrect following the 27.09 update. I have tested with my Garmin Forerunner 165 Music in built heart monitor and my Garmin HRM Pro Plus external monitor when running.

I have tried rebooting the watch multiple occaisions, but it does not recognise when my heartrate increases when running.

Anyone else experienced something similar since the latest update?

  • Hi everyone, for some reason after the latest 27.09 update at the end of December I had the same issue: my heart rate monitor stopped working and I’ve been without it for the whole month of January. I was about to switch to another watch brand, really frustrated, trying several reinstallations I found on Reddit and nothing worked.

What just worked for me now was putting the watch in the fridge for 5 minutes and then reinstalling it from the “About” section. For some strange reason, it worked!

I’m leaving this message in case it helps any of you. It’s been really frustrating and I completely understand what you’re going through.

  • I don’t have the step/sleep tracking problems, but the heart rate is completely useless during any activities for me. As soon as I start any run, the watch has my HR shoot up into the 190 range and stay in at least the 180s. Needless to say, my max HR at this point isn’t even 180, so I might as well turn in off.

  • To play a little devils advocate, are you sure that's not your max HR, or you don't have a heart palpitation? As in you've tested it with a chest strap and aren't using the outdated Max HR calculation of 220-age. Of course if you're on top of your Max HR in a more technical manner or are an athlete, can take your own pulse easily, etc... then all good, the WHR hasn't been good on Garmin for a while now, but I haven't seen Max HR problems...usually too low

  • For the last 3 weeks, I have been having the exact same problems.

  • I am absolutely sure that’s not my max HR (it’s 178) and I don’t have any heart palpitations (fortunately). I suppose I should have put background in: I’m 50 and have been running for about 15 years. This time of year, I train for Boston, so I like to use the watch just to keep an eye on HR and RHR to see how my body is reacting to the stress. I really hope they fix this thing. I did forget to mention that the elevation change on my outdoor runs also started to be way off (as in far more climbing than I’m actually doing). Ugh.

  • Ha, I'm around the same age, with the same max HR...though I've gotten out of shape the last few years so don't know what it is in practice. But when I was in shape the the 211 - (Age x 0.64) formula was pretty much dead on. Yeah sounds like you know your stuff, well they did just release 27.10 were they rolled back the Sensor Hub version to 34.13, 27.09 was using 35.14 or something.

  • Hello guys. 27.10 was released yesterday. I tested today and everything is working fine after the update!

  • Good to hear, technically it’s just a rollback to a previous Sensor Hub version
