Lap Audio Alerts

Watch no longer providing audio alerts. Beeps and info provided on the screen but no verbal info. Got the watch on 31 January. Readouts for two weeks. Nothing since 14th when screen went blank after starting a run activity. I pressed lits of buttons which were still activating menus, but nothing on the screen. I have checked setting and all setting seem correct. Is there volume control some where (not music edition) Do i need to reset? If so, how do I do that? Will I lose info? Thanks

The very one point I became suspicious about is that it like to start to happens after a software update.

I already did a complete check on the settings. Tuning off and on again. Turning the watch off/on and Nothing!!

I thinking in do a reset but afraid of lose some data!

    Please Help.!!!

Thanks in advance for any hints and support

  • I think the non-music 165 gets its audio prompts from the app on the phone. Have you updated the app or phone recently or checked the settings there?

  • Hello!
Yes, you're right. Yes, the App both for the phone  and the watch ask for new versions frequently.
And it' for sure one of my major concerns BUGS.

I've done a full reset and get back my configurations and data from connect/express.
Uhu!!! The audio restart to work. ;-) Let's wonder for how much time it will working.

I'm a bit disappointed with Garmin.

Since feb. these are the 3td. problem I've had.
First: I have been experiencing an unexpected changing/lost of the settings.
Second:  The the hart rate monitoring became extremely  inaccurate. Some times, (not every time). I'm used to run 8 to 10km for a long time now. Perhaps some 40 years!!! That said, I know that my pulse increase very fast, I came fro 70 to 140 at the firsts 2km. From that the pulse will going up smootly to 170 until the final running.  But the watch seems as it being "frozen" and not surpass 116/120 until the half of the running and suddenly climb to 160/170.
And it's alful 'cos creates the impression that you are going toe have some kind of hart problem. :-(

And the third: This case of the sudden stop on the audio alerts.

  • Whilst you are now sorted, I thought it worth posting for future reference that I too was regularly having issues with my non-music FR165 (not) providing lap audio alerts.

As JC Swe pointed out, this feature does of course rely on the phone-hosted Garmin Connect app to do this for the non-music version of the FR165 and in my case it seemed that the Android OS was in some cases not allowing Garmin Connect to continue running in the background because having since given the app 'Unrestricted' status in the 'Battery Usage' configuration page I've not had a single repeat of the issue.

  • Hi,

Good point "... Android OS was in some cases not allowing Garmin Connect to continue running in the background..."
I'll check this out.  Thanks for that!
BTW, since the last reset  the watch has been working well. The remaining concern is just about the hart rate inaccuracy.
    Happy 2026!!!

  • Endless bugs and errors. What you’ve seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg.
Welcome to the world of Garmin.

  • Hi Instinct N.

That's a very unhappy notice. But I agree with you. Some issues are very disgusting. As it is the inaccuracy of the hart monitoring. "Cos, it could be a serious consequences for who have some kind of hart concerns. It's not that good to know, after some 30 minutes, that you aren't being running at around 120, instead you are about your limit, around 170. And, also, you do not know for how long time.
For the less, you'll can't  count on this measure to planning your training and  the benefits of gain of hart conditioning.
To say... my primary goal on buy the watch..
We have several brands out there. Some ones at half of the price of a Garmin.

At this point, I'm wonder if the quality of does ones are a 1/2 of as a Garmin are...

  • This YouTube channel is very helpful for evaluating watches.
Garmin is expensive, but its accuracy is just so-so.
