HRM 600 pace/distance with Fenix 7X Pro

I've been observing some weird behaviour when running on a threadmill. It goes like this:

  • Day 1: correct pace
  • Day 2: pace too low - I did Calibrate & Save
  • Day 3: pace too high...

What is more, on Day 2 I noticed the pace changing when I raised my arm, to me it seems that the pace was being taken from the watch. On Day 3 raising my arm did not change the pace, like the pace was being taken from HRM 600.

How do I tell the source of pace during an activity?

And wondering if the issue affects heart rate data too...

When I go to the sensor settings while HRM 600 is disconnected, I cannot see "HRM Pace & Distance" at all, no way to select between automatic and manual calibration. When HRM 600 is connected, I can see that menu but it is greyed out and a subtitle says "Only ANT+". But the user manual states in one place: "You can view your running pace and distance on your compatible fēnix watch when connected using ANT+ technology or secure Bluetooth technology.", and a little later: "If you are using an HRM-Fit or HRM-Pro series accessory, pair it with your watch using ANT+ technology, rather than Bluetooth technology."

So does HRM 600 also require ANT+? And if I switch to ANT+, will I loose some statistics?

Any help greatly appreciated.

HRM 600 supports both ways, but not all watches support the Secure BT. Some models do not support Secure BT at all, others only for the HR. Check out the changelogs of the firmware of your watch, and see whether Secure BT is supported. If not, use ANT+. ANT+ is the default protocol transferring all metrics incl. HR, Running Dynamics, and hence also Dinstance & Pace. BT was originally used only for HR, the extended support of other metrics was added only rather recently (after introducing the HRM 600 strap).
