You will need something like the NPE Runn. It’s on the market since years, you can read a review at DCRainmakers Blog.
I still have one, but it has problems with tracking cadence if your treadmill is built to good.
This will record elevation in a Connect IQ data field. This data field will not be handled like outdoor elevation gain on Garmin Connect. Maybe external data analytics will used it.
If OP really means the Forerunner 225 (not 255), then this IQ data field is not compatible with it.
Yes it is of course the 255 I'm asking about, you read my mind. I am by no means an ambitious runner, however since my winter training regime primarily is based on treadmill workouts, I think it's a shame that Garmin is not able to compare exercise intensity on indoor vs outdoor sessions. It is able to do it. It does not need the information of the treadmill "elevation" for that. It only needs your heart rate data.
