Issue with HRM Pro Plus connected simultaneously to Garmin Edge 530 (ANT+) and Garmin Connect App (Bluetooth)

Hi,

I have noticed an issue when using my HRM Pro Plus strap with the Garmin Edge 530.

  • When I connect the HRM Pro Plus to the Edge 530 via ANT+, everything works properly and there are no problems.

  • The issue occurs when I also add the HRM Pro Plus directly to the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone (via Bluetooth).

During activities, when the HRM Pro Plus is connected simultaneously to both the Edge 530 (ANT+) and the Garmin Connect app (Bluetooth), the heart rate data on the Edge 530 suddenly gets interrupted and shows dropouts.

Device details:

  • Garmin Edge 530 – firmware 9.76

  • Garmin HRM Pro Plus – firmware 8.8

Is there a possibility to upgrade the HRM Pro Plus firmware? And could you please advise how to fix this issue so that heart rate data remains stable on the Edge 530 while still being connected to the Garmin Connect app?

  • Question - Why do you need it connected via BT to the Connect app.  I just deleted it from the BT settings on my phone.  I had silly issues like the HRM recording still when removed etc so this was my solution. Never use it any othere way except ANT to devices.

BTW My HRM is running 8.9 now I see.

  • If the battery on the HRM has already been used for some time, change it. I had similar problems one or two years ago, when I had my smartphone with me on some runs (which I usually don‘t have). It turned out to be a weak battery on the HRM Pro, problems were gone after the change.

Second thing could be to leave your smartphone behind during runs, if possible. Third option would be to delete the BT connection, if you do not need it for a specific reason like syncing activities, where the watch is not allowed.

Is there a possibility to upgrade the HRM Pro Plus firmware?

Sure, via Garmin Connect, BUT 8.8 aka 8.80 (depends on where you look it up) is the latest firmware for some hardware revisions, for example my HRM Pro+.

BTW My HRM is running 8.9 now I see

Some other revisions seem to have received 8.9 or even 8.10 - but without functional improvements, at least nobody reported any.
