HRM swim discontinued in 2025?

Hi All,

Looking at https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/512311/pn/010-12342-00 seems the old HRM swim has been discontinued. What is the recommended replacement that is suited for pools, namely that it sticks to the body without the need for a suit and that has the protective coating against pool chemicals?

Been sitting on the fence of buying a new watch until I know I have compatibility with whatever the new HRM swim is.

Thanks for any pointers.

  • Interestingly I just bought one this week, Its still on the EU and USA sites .

  • Indeed. Thanks for the link. My concern was not so much finding one at a reseller, but the risk of it being discontinued (as it is already quite old).

Maybe the Garmin AU store is simply out of stock and I was jumping to conclusions. Thanks for the info about the EU/USA markets.

  • Thanks!

I appreciate the link though I was not so much concerned about finding a reseller, but more about the HRM being discontinued.

Your comment on the USA/EU sites is somewhat reassuring. Maybe the AU site is simply out of stock and I was jumping to conclusion. I will wait maybe 1-2 weeks to see if it truly a stock issue.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and google around

  • Sure, interestingly I'm sure when I looked a while back (a year or so I guess)  it wasn't on the USA store either , but i many be misremembering, so I was quite surprised to find one in the last few weeks.

When reading about the HRM-200 that was just released and the reason for the added complexity , I was wondering if all the other HRM ranges will also be updated to meet theses new requirements.

Glad I found one as the OHR gives too high readings and skews the other metrics on the watch (I mainly run)  and teh HRM-PRO is useless to swim with (without a full suit I guess) as it just slips down immediately. Done three Pool swims with the HRM-Swim and it works well for my casual pool swims.

    I use a FR965.

  • Just in the process of exchanging my HRM Swim for a replacement and have been told they are discontinued so they are offering the HRM Pro but I did point out they are still advertised on Garmin sites.

  • Thanks and sorry for not replying earlier.

Indeed the AU website now lists the HRM Swim as "previous model".

When Garmin offered the pro, did you by any chance inquired about the fact that the HRM swim a) has a better grip for swimmers pushing off the wall and b) a coating that is better suited for pool chemicals?

I remember those two being the key differentiators (and like the reason) for having a specific swimming HRM.

Has the Garmin rep mentioned if those features where copied to the PRO or PRO+?

The last row of this table here: https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/p/682155#additional suggests neither fully replaces the SWIM.

  • I have on in Sydney (I am in the UK for a bit) and it's not been used in the water, ever - actually only worn for sizing and functionality test. If you are desperate for and can wait until later this year let me know.
