HRM Pro+ Stays Connected in Bag

I have an issue with my HRM Pro+ staying connected and giving me erratic HR readings. After a session once the strap is in my bag it's staying connected while I carry on with my day and my bag is with me. It also happens when I take it off when driving back from a session and it's on the passenger seat next to me. Yes I can disconnect it via my Epix Pro but what's annoying is it's deep within the settings. Then I have to remember to enable it again for my next session.

I've suggested to Garmin a few of times over the years for a shortcut in the controls menu to 'sensors and accessories' but nothing. This would also help when linking up to the cadence & power sensors on the 'Technogym" bikes at my gym, it has to be done every time I use them and again, it's deep within the settings menu.

Anyone else having similar issues?

  • Hello,

I have a cheap strap called Magena and it has worked great over the years. But recently I realized my watch connects to it even when i'm not wearing it and the device is not connected to the strap....

Yes, remembering to turn on and off all the time is not nice.

during the night it seems to be trying to connect to the strap and giving me wrong heart data in the morning.

  • Today I started with a gym circuit where I always wear my strap due to the erratic readings you get from Optical Wrist HR Sensor. Session completed so as usual went to turn off my HRM Pro+... I'd forgotten to turn it on!! Brilliant!!

Left the gym and went for walk, strap in bag, bag on back, start the activity. 40 minutes in stopped at a coffee shop so paused activity with resume later option. Decided to turn on my HRM ready for tomorrow's bike session so I don't forget again. Left the coffee shop, resumed activity and immediately get the HRM connected notification! So again, turned it off.

Session completed, looked on Connect and my HRM is showing as being used for the walk activity! It was in my bag the whole time and turned on for 10 minutes.

I get that putting an on off switch would not be practical because of the waterproofing but a simple shortcut you can add to the controls menu would drastically help!

I've counted the button presses to turn on & off my HRM Pro... One long press followed by another Twelve!! It couldn't be buried any deeper in the settings menu!!

    Unbelievably Annoying!!!!

I'm putting in yet another request/feedback for a simple shortcut option but as always I won't hold my breath....

  • Yes, this happens with chest straps sometimes when the electrical contacts are wet. This can allow enough current to flow to turn them on, and then the watch will automatically connect. You have to dry it off before you put it away.

  • I do dry it the best I can. I also lay it flat on a dry part of my towel but it still does it. I've just looked at the fit file for the said walk and the strap definitely recorded when it connected, even though it was in my bag.

I looked at the 'Hot Key' options and there's some odd options in there but nothing for sensors and accessories.

I've also looked at RFID pouches, that would do it but it's a step too far. A simple shortcut would solve the issue.
