HRM dual connected (sometimes) but no HRM

I have just purchased the HRM dual. I wet the sensors and started connecting the band.

He does not automatically find it via the app. I then manually search for HRM, but then it only comes up with the HRM fit, pro, etc. I then select the HRM fit. After a short search he comes back and says that he has found the HRM dual.

I try to pair and os progress, only after 20-30 seconds it indicates that pairing failed. I added sensors via my Vivoactive 4. That's where he finds him. After this I also see it in the Garmin app under devices and it is listed under sensors. When I start an activity, the watch indicates that the HRM is connected. However, I don't see a heartbeat in my display.

I also don't see a heart rate on the watch if I don't start an activity. I have included my heart rate in my standard watch face. When I go back to sensors, it is not always connected by default. I then have to go there and it will connect.

But then again no heartbeat. In the above I have turned off my wrist heart rate. When I turn it on, a heartbeat can be seen. But that will be from the wrist and not from the band? What is the solution...?

    Now i'm this far when its connected it shows my heartrate at the watch (not activity) for about 5-10 seconds and then its gone...

    The HRM Dual cannot be paired to the Connect App.

    You need to pair it with your device (Watch/Edge) directly: Go to settings, sensors and search for new devices. You can search for all or for Heartrate Sensors. Should be found then after a few seconds, if you wear the HRM Dual and the strap is wet.

    Sounds as if you paired it. Where do you look for your heartrate? It’s not very clear here.

    Every Garmin watch only ever uses external HRM strap, if you start an activity. If there is no activity started, it will always use the built in optical HR sensor.

    Yes, that is by design. See above, it will only be searched for, connected and used, if you start an activity.

    Not quite correct. Sensors will be searched for as soon as Sensors and Accessories is opened. Any active sensors will be connected then too.

    You are right, but the way I see it, this is for diagnostical reasons. You can check if the sensors connect, the details of connection and sensor („Info“) and that‘s it.

    The sensors won‘t be used and their values not be recorded - and as soon as you leave the menu section, the sensors will disconnect again.

    Apparently you really have to start an activity and actually start running, for example. When I was still testing it, I also started an activity, had GPS, but I didn't really move. Did a real run today and HRM worked and indicated heart rate.

    No need to start running. As soon as you start the activity (by pressing the start butiton) with the HRM strap connected the heart rate will be detected. Of course, if you're not moving with any effort your heart rate will be low but provided the strap is connected, and shown as connected, heart rate will be detected even if you do not move...unless of course your heart isn't beating!!
