HRM battery replacement troubleshooting

Hi!  I just got the HRM-Fit, and I absolutely cannot open the battery casing.  I tried using the screwdrivers I had at home, no dice.  I used coins, and nope.  I took it to the local Home Depot and got a bunch of employees to try every type of screwdriver they had, nothing.

It has a battery in there now, but what do I do when the time comes to try and replace it?  Has anyone had success opening the unit?  What did you do?  What did you use?

Thanks!

Simone

  • Same here! Just got my nee HRM fit today, watched plenty of videos and nope, the lid won’t open. It is so frustrating… Does it mean I have to send it to Garmin now? Face palm tone1‍♀️

  • I managed to get it open, finally.  Well, not me, but a friend who works designing satellites at Starlink.  He's been doing fine motor skill based tech work with a microscope since he was like 12, so he knows his way around electronics.  He shoved it under his microscope to keep a close eye on it, got a screwdriver, and he managed to open it.

Here is the key - he's a weightlifter as well, and he is SO strong in his arms and hands.  He pressed downwards REALLY hard as he was turning and went VERY slowly, to make sure he didn't strip the screw. Even so, when he got it open it had juuuuuuust started to strip.

It was a whole pain in the ass procedure, and I can't believe some people can just use a coin and it opens fine.  That was NOT my experience.  When the time comes to change the battery, I'll probably go back to him and ask him to do it again.  There's no way I could accomplish that on my own.

    Good luck!
