HRM-Pro Plus data gaps

I've noticed that when I'm running at faster paces there are frequently gaps in data from my HRM-Pro Plus during or around the faster paces. Take the activity below, for example. I was running at threshold pace during the highlighted period and there were plenty of gaps in respiration rate during and even after.

I'm wearing the HRM pretty tightly and I'm wetting it before the activity. Are there any other suggestions for reducing these gaps?

  • The tinyist amount of that spectra gel on just the inner pads completely solves all heartrate and respiratory rate data loss for me on the HRM-Pro-Plus.

I would suggest people watch the real battery voltage on the Garmin HRM straps. If it drops below 2.9 volts before or after an activity, it is going to fail or dropout. ie 2.88v  Even if the watch reports battery "okay" that is a lie.

Garmin says a 2032 should last a year. I put 50 hours a month on my HRM-Pro-Plus and have to replace the 2032 monthly or it will not give proper results. The new design makes it super easy, just wait for a big sale when the batteries are less than $1 each.

You can use an app like battery-state to see real voltage (or just replace the 2032 on the 1st of each month)

  • Ive observed issues on completely new battery, than it is not a solution.

  • It looks that problem is in combination RUN activity and HRM-Pro Plus.
On other activities (HIIT, Strength, Treadmill RUN), I never observed such issues.

And as somebody else said, switching to BT doesn't make sense.
I would like to have all data from Garmin strap, if I would have only HR data I would buy some cheap BT strap.

  • Confirmed, they are releasing a new version later this year. I was told so when chatting with Garmin this weekend about erroneously high HR data after activities (Bug: Erroneous High Heart Rate data).

The corresponding inaccurate heart rate data is mostly why I raised the issue! At least Garmin has recently implemented heart rate dynamic source switching on my Forerunner 965.

  • I want all the data from the strap too! For me shirtless and bt mode is the most stable in all activities (run, track run, trail run)

I really do prefer ant+ but when on  ant+ the drops can get ridiculous!  Then drops  will totally mess up my training load on sessions!  I have seen bpm  go over over 20+ in testings wearing  two watches (epix gen 2+ hrm pro plus vs epix pro 51mm)

For example, normal zone 2 run .

when respiration data drops, it can shoot up 20 beats and end up at zone 4. Or already at vo2max efforts the data drops and phantom spike to above max hr or  drops to zone 2 while I am going 3km pace lol

Due to this, I have no choice to use bt mode. Even on bt mode I have respiration data field on my watch so I can monitor respiration connection while I run.(Hrm pro plus connection )

Everytime I try ant+ I am risking possible erratic hr at end of session.

Btw, You are also correct new battery still get this issue. Tested myself. With brand new battery. Had drops on first run in ant+ mode (but not in bt)

  • Interesting, will try the app on the side. Thank you for the link.

  • Confirmed, they are releasing a new version later this year. I was told so when chatting with Garmin

Interesting. Garmin do not usually put forward future product release dates. What new version has your ‘Garmin’ source said, software or hardware?

  • It is coming Smile like I told you about the Fenix 8 10 days  before official release date  .  Things get leaked before official release.

All hrm pro plus inventory are cleared out! you can't even buy one from Garmin.com. they don't even have one to send out as replacement.  You can call Garmin support  and confirm yourself.

  • I agree with you.
But I think issue is somewhere else.
It cannot be only problem with ANT+ connectivity, because problem is only with lack of respiratory and random HR raise, all other data Running Power, Ground Contact time and other data from strap are transmitted correctly.

  • Unfortunately for us current hrm pro plus users, Garmin doesn't seem to care to fix the bug. With new hrm strap coming out soon, I think we will never resolve this issue.

What is interesting is I read Garmin recently disabled coros arm band hrm in recent watch update. A lot of users no longer can use coros arm band hrm with their Garmin watches.
