Hi All,

I need your help /advice.

My illness has been progressing quite rapidly in the last half a year.

(I have Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis).

It is very difficult to simply walk. I attempt to walk 3 times a day but a very short distance.

Unfortunately, I need to use Rollator. Ideally, every time I go outside because I stable, fall and injure myself.

Here comes the question.

When I use Rollator, Instinct does not count my steps. I used it 3 times, always the same result.

Is there an add on gadget that would count the steps when I use Rollator?

Maybe I could fit it around my ankle or something?

It would have to be synced with my Garmin account, so the steps would be added to the rest of my daily activities detected by Instinct?

Thank you,

Arthur

  • Very sorry for your situation. Put the watch on your ankle. With your arm not moving, the watch does not know your walking

I didn't realise it until I tried to use Rollator. So far I found only RDP compatible with garmin watch and it is not Instinct 1st gen but FR255. If they do the job I will be very glad.

I don't have much time. Maybe a couple of months maybe a bit longer. Fed up with fighting an incurable illness.

  • Could you please advertise me on where I can get one?

Unfortunately I don't have exact data, you can use web search , for example the discussion Foot pod for Instinct? and then discuss purchasing options with sellers.

And is FR55 is still available?

    Yes https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/741137/pn/010-02562-01

I would advise you to find your Instinct and its manual on the Garmin website, see what it says about foot pod support, you may not need the FR55.

    Will do it.

Although Instinct missing on RDP list of compatible watches is not encouraging (I think it's older than RDP). The newer versions, Instinct 2, is present on the list.

I will not go for FR55 anyways, because it is not on the list either.

    FR255 is there.

It may not be a matter of the model's age, but of class. For example, FR55 and FR165 are newer than FR245, but unlike it (245), they don't support RDP.

It seems to me that any foot pod with Ant+  support can be suitable for Instinct. Unfortunately it seems that now you can only find second hand.

Maybe it's worth asking a question on the forum about your Instinct model?

Another consideration, RDP is considered incompatible because the watch does not support RD metrics, and as for the number of steps - maybe they will be transmitted to Instinct? So you can start by buying RDP, and if the steps work, you can do without FR255

I found Instinct manual in my archive.

It says that Instinct supports food pod but doesn't say what make or model. It explains how to pair them.

I will do as you say, order RDP and see whether it works.

If not then I will have to change the watch for FR255.

Thank you so much for your patience and time!

I will keep you updated on the progress.

    Arthur

  • Good luck to you.

  • Hi again,

    I received the RDP.

So far, no luck. Either I fail to activate RDP or my watch can't see it. I will take the pod with me on my usual walks or... I will need to test it with FR255

  • HI, You just need to shake RDP - then it will activate, have you tried it? Then start searching for ANT+ devices on the watch.

  • Yes, shook it quite seriously. Searched on the watch after that,no luck Disappointed

My English is getting rusty. I wanted to say quite vigorously but the word slipped my mind.

  • It's a damn shame, maybe try buying a second hand fr245, it definitely works with RDP.
