HRM PRO PLUS does not transmit distance at the start of the run.

HRM PRO PLUS does not transmit distance at the start of the race, but it does transmit pace. This almost always happens at the beginning of a race for the first minute or two minutes. As a result, training and average pace are not true since the first 400-800 meters of the race are not taken into account. The strap is calibrated and the race pace is shown correctly. Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Or maybe everyone has it, just no one pays attention to the fact that the pace is recorded, but the distance is not recorded. In the settings I configured to receive pace and distance with hrm pro plus.

  • The speed/distance on the HRM-Pro-Plus is buggy as ***.

And Garmin apparently doesn't care because they seem to be done developing firmware for it, maybe the devs quit

    There's isn't a beta and there's no-where to officially report bugs

I've been experimenting with mine set to Speed ALWAYS and Distance ALWAYS because GPS has been very error-prone lately with the solar storms and summer weather overcast but yet today there are IMPOSSIBLE speed errors that should never exist on an accelerometer based device that is supposedly ignoring GPS

Now for all we know these bugs are actually in the firmware of the watch, you didn't mention yours but mine is Fenix6, but I have to imagine it is just taking the feedback from the strap acting as a footpod.

Personally I'd never rely on the HRM-Pro-Plus during a race, even the Stryd pod has lag on speed but the distance calculation is accurate enough to get feedback based on the first quarter mile split.

The only thing that might explain both what you are experiencing and the speed gaps/bursts on my run today is that the strap is disconnecting the ANT+ connection to the watch or momentary signal loss from interference, or the footpod simulation part is disconnecting or crashing in the firmware.

See the white gaps on this pace? that should never happen if GPS isn't being used for speed and I assure you I am incapable of 5:49 pace and 1.5 meter stride length anymore, certainly no way in heck at only 135bpm

  • New math from Garmin. In my case (FR955 + HRM PRO Plus + Speed ALWAYS and Distance ALWAYS.) there is pace but no distance.

  • Today I ran the same route as yesterday and there was massive GPS loss again in the FIT file (overcast, windy is bad with metal case Fenix) but this time I turned on "Distance Always" for my Stryd pod and the distance was perfect

So was pace because I've now turned off Speed on the HRM, it's useless.

Distance is set to Always but I believe it lets the footpod override when it is set to Always so the Stryd is in control.

Unfortunately a $200 Stryd is not an option for most people and shouldn't have to be if they dropped $100 on the Pro-Plus

I have no idea what Garmin is planning for the future but they won't survive with this lack of software quality.
