HRM Pro Plus Downloads 2 Activities !!

Dear GARMIN ADMINS, COMMUNITY

I have recently bought the above HRM monitor, and connected it to my watch, Garmin Connect App, and also phone (bluetooth). The 3 are always close to each other, for a walk activity let’s say.

1- When I do NOT Download HR, one activity is synched to GC App.

2- When I DO DOWNLOAD HR, TWO activities are downloaded, the first one (in point 1 above) and a second one integrating the enhanced (higher) HRM data

PLEASE, WHAT IS THE BEST SOLUTION TO AUTOMATICALLY (WITHOUT MANUALLY DELETING THE FIRST LOWER ACTIVITY, AS THIS COULD ALSO WRONGFULLY ALTER INTENSITY MINUTES, ETC.) SYNCH ONLY THE SECOND ACTIVITY, WITH TRUTFHUL HIGHER HR AND TRAINIG EFFECT?

Please help, as am kind of OCD about such redundancies, thank you, much appreciated Slight smile

  • If the watch connects to the HRM Pro+ when you start the activity (shows the connected notification), and your watch and HRM are close enough during the activity, the watch automatically records the HR from the strap, and there's no need for you to explicitly download the HR afterwards. Downloading later is for situations like swim when the HRM and strap are not close enough (or cannot communicate) during the activity.

  • Dear Bitti

Thank you so much for your very clear and prompt response, much appreciated.

    • I understood that, but the thing is, when I Download HR, indicators such as HR during walking activity, Training Effect AND INTENSITY MINUTES are higher than when I do not, which is normal as HRM more precise than wrist/watch one. Thus, the activity to keep and not the former one.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

  • Could you share us links to such a pair of activities?

  • Sure, next time I do one, how to do so? On this forum? Are you a Garmin Admin, or simply user like us?

  • I'm just a user who also owns a HRM Pro+, so I'm interested in learning what the problem is, if there's a problem, i.e. how the activities are different.

But I completely understand if you don't feel like sharing your activities publicly. In that case, I think contacting the official Garmin support if the best course of action.

  • Sure, no issue for sharing, will definitely do for next one, as deleted all duplicates already.

Can’t you try it your side as well, to compare?

  • Ok, I now had a run with my Forerunner 965 and HRM Pro+, and in addition to having the HRM Pro+ connected to the watch during the run, I then also downloaded the HR data from the strap to the watch afterwards.

As expected, this resulted in two activities in Garmin Connect. They were almost identical (also, as expected). I noticed just three minor differences when comparing the activities:

    • The estimated calorie consumption was a little bit different (about 5 %). This is to be expected, since both the watch and the strap estimate calories (using the same strap HR data, since they were connected), but probably they have slightly different algorithms (and the watch has more information, like the type of the activity).
    • Training effect was just a little different (3.4 vs. 3.5). That could be caused by the fact the watch normally estimates the training effect on the run while the activity is progressing (potentially using also HRV data), but after downloading it has to recalculate the effect (potentially using a little less data, I'm not sure if the strap stores HRV R-R data for downloading later).
    • There were tiny tiny differences in the HR graph, but these were of the type "HR raises from 135 to 136 two seconds earlier/later on the watch", i.e. nothing of importance. I would put that down to just different algorithms in recording and storing the data.

So, in my case there's clearly no reason to explicitly download HR data afterwards, if the activity was recorded with the strap connected to the watch before the activity starts (and of course that they are near enough to keep the connection during the activity).

  • Dear Bitti

Was just going to write you, as I have just finished a walk and synchronization Slight smile

Thank you so much for all your efforts, and for being so sxplicit and clear.

My side, bizarrely but positively, did Download HR afterwards, and have only one activity in GC, go figure, maybe due to GC BETA version?

P.S: maybe adapting as new, TE and average/high HR discrepancies were quite significative.

Thanks a million again, we stay in touch if needed.

    Cheers.

    Serge

  • Good to hear things are now working for you. But my main point remains, there should be no reason to download the HR afterwards, unless the watch and the strap are separated during the activity. (And even then, if they are again close to each other later before the activity ends, the watch should automatically download the missing data.) And in fact downloading the HR afterwards could well make the data and analysis worse, not better. But difficult to tell, since Garmin doesn't understandably disclose technical details.
