HRM Pro Plus drops connection with EPIX Gen 2

Or maybe the other way around? Mybe it's the EPIX Gen 2 that drops the connection?

I start activity on EPIX Gen 2; everyting seems to work nicely and I leave the EPIX in the Gym bag as I'm doing the activity. I then expect afterwards - in about 2 hours time - to find my watch still happily at the activity timer running after the exercise is over- As  I return to the watch I finish the activity and the watch downloads the data from HRM Pro plus.

This works nicely 4 times out of 5.

But occasionallay the watch has decided to return to the normal watch activity, like the activity had never been started in the first place. Thus making retrieval of the activity data from HRM impossible - no sign of the activity has been recorded in the watch memory.

Really stumps me how to even go about the fault analysis. First I started by making sure the watch buttons are not pressed during the activity. (no change). Then I started looking for correlation between this happening and whether the HRM-Plus not being properly wet (always well sweatted thru). Then I run out of ideas.

Any ideas on how to go about solving this? Incredibly frustrating feature...

  • This doesn't look like a HRM-Pro issue, The issue is almost certainly on the watch itself. If you find the watch displaying the watch face then two possibilities come to my mind:

     - You forget to start the timer and the watch returns to watch face after timeout.

     - The watch crashes during activity and reboots.

Also I'd make sure that nothing touches the touchscreen when you place the watch in the bag. I don't know how such an issue could be caused by uncommanded touchscreen operation, but perhaps it's worth paying attention to.

  • Do you have touch active during activities?

  • Thank you for the input! Much appreciated!

I'm pretty sure the clitch is not caused by me not forgetting to start the activity. I've done that mistake a few times before, been puzzled and then realised that I had forgotted the "final press of the start- key". Now that I'm mentally in the "debugging-stage" of figuring this particular weirdness out, I've made a mental habit of consciously checking that the timer is running, before I consider the practise started.

The touchscreen is also always disabled in all my activities.

I've not come accross the idea EPIX just spontaneously resetting itself. I suppose there's no way of knowing if that's the case? Any log entry that I could read?

  • Thank you for the input! Unfortunately no; my touchscreen always off during activity.

That would have been an easy fix, though.

  • Any log entry that I could read?

Yes, there is. I can't remember now where to look for it exactly, but just plug in the watch into a computer and look for a text file that has "LOG" or "ERROR" in its name.
