does the hrm pro plus calculate intensity minutes on the strap or garmin app

Working with HRM pro+,  I use this with zwift app and download directly to ios garmin app after workout.  No watch activity recorded.

The issue:

Intensity minutes are either way off or using the wrong zones.

This started because I would have 0-10 min/wk and found that my watch could be at high as 30 beat/min off.  So I solve this with HRM pro+ so I thought.

One of the things that I did as a test was lower the zone for intensity minutes down to zone 1 and zone 2.  Like you would expect the number jump over 800/ wk.

I changed the zones to 2 and 3, and then again to 3 and 4.  But no matter what change I make it still records at zone 1 and 2 which gives me credit for every minute I workout.

Does anybody know if the strap is computing the mintues or garmin app.  My theory is the strap.  If so, that means the settings are not updating on the strap. Does anybody know how to update the strap settings?

if not the issue, any ideas?

  • Intensity minutes are calculated by the HRM-Pro.

  • Are you sure?  I thought the strap just provides raw data eg. HR, etc to the watch & apps such GC and zwift, and the apps calculate intensity minutes based on your settings in each.  Have you checked  zones in zwift.

  • For some reaon garmin doesn't use the heart rate data from Zwift.  Not sure why.  Previously I used Polar H10 until I couldn't find a way to get intestity minutes without  having duplicate activityes or buying a hrm pro from Garmin. When I set up Garmin HRM pro+ the settings were at zone 1 and 2.... I should try using only my watch and see if it calulates my intensity minutes differently.   I think it should.  I know when I change my settings for intensity minutes I have to go into devices and select my watch and go to the activity settings.  There isn't a way to change it directly on the HRM although when I upload the data it uploads directly from the HRM to garmin connect

    Pretty sure.

Most straps do. But the HRM-Pro is quite unique in this regard.

    the apps calculate intensity minutes

Garmin Connect never calculates any intensity minutes. These have to come from a garmin device.

  • Hi, I opened a thread, on indoor workout doesnt work the "intensity minutes" feature. Outdoor I noticed no problems
