HRM Dual is connecting as external HRM during activities, even when the strap & transmitter aren't attached

Hi

I'm not sure how to search for this - as the issue is that the HRM IS connected but I don't want it to be.

I've got an HRM dual and Forerunner 255S music - I have recently changed the battery in the HRM and used it on a couple of runs with no issues. I have just done a workout without wearing the HRM. However, the Forerunner shows it was connected to an external HRM.

I always thought that the HRM isn't 'on' unless the strap and the transmitter are attached - how can it transmit when it's just sitting there doing nothing? Won't that kill the battery if it's always transmitting??

Thanks

  • If You go to sensorsystemen on your watch You Will find the hrm AND button to turn it off

  • You Will find the hrm AND button to turn it off

Shouldn't need to do this. The strap will usually only start transmitting when it's being moved. Where was the strap when the watch was saying it's connected? Are you sure the strap was actually showing a connection? Might it have just been showing that it was searching?

If the sensor is off the strap, and has not been moved for a long period, and the watch shows the strap connected, then you might want to contact Garmin Support.

  • My HRM Dual started doing same - even after being disconnected from strap for whole day, it is connecting to FR965 in a moment after starting activity. Or even starting Health Snapshot. HRM itself is 2m away on a desk, no strap connected.

BPM is not transmitted, but external HRM Dual is 'connected'. This started about 1-2 weeks ago. Ok, I also changed battery recently.

  • Mine is the same unless i manually turn the HRM to off on the watch it won't display wrist based heart rate on the Cardio activity setting.
