Non-watch tracker alternative

Hi,
I think I speak for myself and many more people who enjoy watches and want continuous data and to use the garmin ecosystem.

At the moment to get the data, for example, I cannot use my loved mechanical watches. Moreover, the are situation in which a person would simply want to be more dressy. In the end, a watch  or chest strap is really during an activity, and less so during rest time. My point is that there are some situation where I (and I believe many more users) would enjoy to get fitness data from a device that is not a watch, and still feed the data into garmin connect.

For example, if I am going to a wedding I would like to use the dressy mechanical watch but still get basic fitness data for the day during garmin connect. Then I could use my Instinct in selected days and during activities or sleep, but we would have the alternative to be more dressy or simply use different watches without sacrificing fitness and health tracking.

A solution that would be perfect would be either a band like whoop, wearable either as a bracelet or on the arm, which would be not so capital expensive to produce for gamrin given they already do chest bands. Or a smart ring. The goal would be to able to track data and feed it into garmin connect (mainly HR, to track fitness and recovery) when one does not want to use a smartwatch.

I hope with this post to engage the community  and show garmin market for this solution, which can be very simple if done through a band similar to whoop's one.

  • garmin should take the vivosmart4 (the 5 is much bulkier) strip the screen off and update the body battery and sleep metric to the latest version and sell it as a screen less monitoring band for your Garmin account

  • *bump* I'm starting to look if I should change Garmin to another environment like Oura or Whoop exactly due to this reason.. pls Garmin make something that isn't a watch to monitor health during day...

  • Maybe the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor is usable during the day as well?

  • Given this chat is over 2 years old, it's pretty disappointing Garmin hasn't developed something yet. Polar has recently released exactly what we've been asking for! After c. 10 years of being an avid Garmin enthusiast, I've never been closer to leaving to a different platform.

  • It's bulky and doesn't track steps/activity unfortunately... The best option Garmin currently have is the chest strap but that's uncomfortable for daily use/casual wear.

  • Polar brought the loop, AliExpress is full of €10-€30 alternatives. Yet I'm still waiting. But my patience is running out here.

  • I have been after this for years now and eventually went for a whoop which seems ridiculous having an edge for cycling and a FR955 for running and other occasional sports. I have nice mechanical watches that I wear every day and only ever worn the FR955 daily when I am marathon training.
A Garmin health tracker would fill the gap perfectly and keep everything in 1 app and get rid of whoop subscription.
I would continue to purchase update edges and Forerunner 9series when I want an upgrade. If anything I am less likely to stay with Garmin at this point… I have considered wahoo bike computers etc.

The sleep tracker does not cover this whatsoever, as it solves the problem of people who wear a garmin watch in the day and don’t want to wear a watch at night. I need something that stays on your right wrist day and night,  that’s small, and can forget about charging for a month like whoop. It is not hard garmin. Really not hard. They could probably put a serious dent in whoops market with this, considering the bulk of whoop subscribers probably cycle or run and have garmin watches or head units anyway.
I have read DC rainmakers review of the sleep thing and could wear it all day, but looks as big as blood pressure monitor and notice it through clothes. Not something I’d want on all day.

  • It is really that simple but garmin don’t appear to want to do it. I’ve thought about getting vivosmart but still look like you are that guy with two watches on. A faceless band like whoop you get away with.

  • I have exactly the same issue.

I want a day & night tracker in 1 app that accounts for all my exercises and trainings and tells me how I'm doing or progressing health-wise.

Currently I have my Marq Gen 2 Adventurer, which I wear when doing sports or in the gym with the chest strap for more accurate heart rate.

I have my Edge computer with Garmin pedals for cycling and the Wahoo Kickr bike trainer...

When i want to go out and wear my mechanical watch, i wear indeed the little vivo 5 thing... but i've been asked already a few times why I'm wearing 2 watches and I dont like it.

Given the long time of asking these questions and no answers, I've indeed started looking into Whoop or Oura ring - you said you have Whoop, when you record your excercises like cycling or running... does Whoop recognize somehow that you exercised and accounts for it or do you double track it or connect via Strava? Does this actually work? If yes... i've also explored changing Garmin out for Wahoo... the reason i went with Garmin initially was as it would also work with monitoring day/night and Marq being ok to be worn when I want something nicer... but lack of descrete tracker at this point when i want to wear mechanical watch or just don't want a watch is becoming an issue and may change out the environment all together...
