Two days ago, I went for a 5K run with my HRM-Pro synced to my Phoenix 6. I always wet at least the strap's pads with water or saliva, check to ensure it is connected to the watch, and then when I know everything's connected, I go for a run. I was doing zone 2 HR training (141 to 156 BPM for me) and things seemed to work fine. The watch appeared to track and alert low and high heart rates appropriately. The terrain was generally flat with only minor grades to incline and decline, so my heart rate seemed to rise and fall more or less normally while running and walking.
Today, I did a 10K in what I thought was going to be zone 2. The terrain was similar, though there were more slight uphill grades. What confused and annoyed me today was that my watch, synced to my HRM-Pro, kept reporting that I was in HR zone 1 (less than 141 BPM) for almost the majority of the first three miles, occasionally bleeding in to zone 2. based on how I performed two days ago, there is no way this was accurate, but I kept on running and when ascending a steep hill, my HR rose to 166 immediately (zone 3 aerobic), so I stopped to walk, and then the watched spiked right up to 185 BPM! I was so confused, and so I continued walking until my HR dropped back down in to zone 2 at about 145 BPM. From then on, the watch stayed in zone 2 / 3, as if reading normally, like the HRM-Pro had finally realized I was doing something, and looked as if it was reporting HR accurately when compared to the 5K I ran two days ago.
Is this normal? What could have caused this? After every run, I rinse my HRM-Pro with cool water thoroughly, and I try to soak the pads thoroughly in water before running, but sometimes I have no water and so I simply use saliva. This has always worked in the past. Is my HRM-Pro faulty or damaged? Maybe some sort of syncing issue with the watch?
Curious as to what you guys think. Please let me know if there's anything I can do. Thanks in advance!
