Garmin Fenix 5 Plus won't auto upload workouts to the Garmin App.

Is the Garmin Fenix 5 Plus supposed to auto upload workouts to the Garmin app?  I am able to manually upload my workouts from the watch to the app on my phone by opening up the app on the phone, but I thought they were supposed to auto upload.  Any idea?

Is GCM always open and running in the background? Needs to be for automatic upload.

BTW, better to post in the 5 Plus forum

  • Yeah I'm able to upload my workouts when I open the app on my phone.  Some of my friends watches automatically upload their workouts so I've been trying to see if mine does that too.  I will also repost this in the Fenix 5 Plus Forum. Thanks!

  • Yeah in the settings in my Iphone I have the boxed clicked for "Background app refresh", so I believe that mean's it'll keep the app running in the background fully.  If that is the case it should be getting the request to update from my watch.  So maybe the issue is my watch.

  • I believe that checkbox is only for the app to be updated by iOS, but I might be wrong. All you need do is ensure that GCM is not closed so it is always running in the background. What you can do, on the watch (I think the 5+ has this setting) under the phone connection is turn on the setting that alerts you when the watch and phone connect/disconnect. Ideally you should only get a disconnection alert when the watch and phone move out of range - ie not very often.

  • Okay I'm going to try that and let you know if I run into any issues.  I also reset my wifi connection by forgetting it and re adding it to see if that helps.
